Terrance Ferguson Carries Spencer Webb’s Legacy Into NFL Rookie Season

Ferguson was picked by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round, No. 46 overall, of the 2025 NFL Draft. He made a name for himself as a tight end at Oregon, finishing his college career with 91 catches — the fourth-most by any tight end in Ducks history.

His breakout year came in 2023 when he earned First-Team All-Pac-12 honors and became one of college football’s top tight ends.

Now, Ferguson is ready to begin his journey in the pro league. What makes his start even more special is the heartfelt tribute he’s already made. He chose to wear jersey number 18 in honor of his late friend and former Oregon teammate, Spencer Webb.

Webb, who also played tight end for Oregon, tragically passed away in July 2022 at just 22 years old after a cliff-diving accident. Ferguson and Webb were teammates in 2021, and Webb was known for mentoring younger players, including Ferguson during his freshman year.

Now, the 22-year-old rookie has decided to carry Webb’s legacy with him as he steps into his debut season.

“It happened a couple years ago now, and people can lose sight of that,” the Colorado native said, as the Rams transcribed. “For me, having that number, it’s like having him out there with me.

“But then also just kind of making sure people still remember by honoring him through his number—who he was, what he stood for, and a lot of good things he brought to the game. And so just being able to honor him, really, and just keep him with me, but also keep him for everybody else to see.”

You might be surprised to know that he also has Webb’s No. 18 tattooed on his left arm. Fans have rallied behind Ferguson’s tribute, celebrating his decision to honor Webb in this way.

Now jumping on the emotional train, one fan tweeted, “Pretty cool he landed with that number!”
