LB Andrew Simpson Transfers to North Carolina for Final Season

Andrew Simpson attracted a lot of interest after entering the transfer portal, but the former Boise State linebacker has now turned down interest from the likes of Florida, Miami, Syracuse, Colorado, Purdue, Texas A&M, UCLA, and USC in favor of North Carolina for his final college season.

The linebacker recorded an impressive 141 tackles in three years for Boise State. He also received 32.0 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, five forced fumbles, eight passes defended, a blocked kick, and three interceptions.

His impressive stats make it easy to see why North Carolina coach Bill Belichick decided to add him to his team’s roster. Simpson checked in as a three-year player and was ranked as the No. 1,020th overall recruit in the nation in his class before he enrolled at Boise State.

Fans have taken to social media to express their delight at Simpson committing to the Tar Heels. He had an impressive spell at Boise State, and many fans believe that UNC just landed a “game-changer.”

The linebacker posted several impressive stats during his time at the Broncos; however, 2023 was his most productive year as he finished the year with 66 tackles, 16.0 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and four passes defended.

North Carolina will be delighted to have landed the former Boise State linebacker. Simpson joins a team that has previously added four linebackers through the transfer portal. He would have to compete with Jonathan Agumad, Mikai Gbayor, Timir Hickman-Collins, and Khmori House.

Meanwhile, Boise State wasted no time in adjusting to life without Simpson by moving Jake Ripp from edge rusher to linebacker after Simpson entered the transfer portal. Ripp was a spring standout and is widely expected to start for Boise State opposite middle linebacker Marco Notarainni.
