The New Orleans Saints made the decision to draft Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough with the 40th overall pick in last month’s NFL Draft.
They did that because they believe in the talent of the 25-year-old, even though others do not.

Former NFL Scout Says Tyler Shough’s Viral Throw Wasn’t a Fluke
Shough had a viral throw at the NFL Combine a few months ago that took the internet by storm. A throw that he made put his talent and mechanics into question.
Former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly recently wrote on social media why the wild throw might not be a fluke.
As a former NFL Scout, I’m voting for this Tyler Shough pass as the ‘wildest mechanics by a quarterback’ I’ve ever seen at a pre-draft event. https://t.co/n9piPqA4qL

To be fair to Shough, it was just one throw, and one throw is not going to define the career of one rookie quarterback.
Shough, Rattler, or Haener: Saints Face Unsettled QB Battle in Post-Carr Era
Aside from the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, the Saints might have the most intriguing quarterback situation in the league right now.
For starters, former Pro Bowl quarterback and longtime veteran Derek Carr announced his retirement from the league and the Saints recently after having dealt with a shoulder injury for the last couple of seasons. Now, that leaves Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener as the three quarterbacks on the Saints’ roster.
With Rattler and Haener playing up and down throughout their young careers, first-year head coach Kellen Moore might want to start a fresh face in Shough. Remember, Shough played seven seasons of college football and ended his career with solid numbers at Louisville (3,195 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, six interceptions).
Unless the Saints can find a way to magically get legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers to sign with them, this very well could be Shough’s show in his rookie season. Look for him to deal with some growing pains early on as he gets his feet wet in the NFL.
