CFB Analyst Josh Pate Reveals Why Michigan’s Self-Imposed Suspension Could Backfire in a Big Way

The Michigan Wolverines are moving forward by suspending their head coach, Sherrone Moore, for the upcoming matches that will be the third and fourth games of the season.

The big decision is taken as a step to sanction related to the 2023-2024 Connor Stallions scandal. He will not be present in the games that will be in rivalry with Central Michigan (at home) and Nebraska (away in Lincoln).

The team decided to apply this sanction to Moore themselves.

Moreover, he is still allowed to coach them in the first two games of the coming season against his team, New Mexico and Oklahoma, until further information is available.

Josh Pate Calls Michigan’s Suspension a Joke

Recently, commentator Josh has shared his views on his YouTube channel, by the whole suspension scene related to Moore’s suspension for the game.

“The Michigan NCAA investigation, the road has gotten a little bit more windy since the last time we spoke,” Pate said.

“Michigan did something that many programs have done before, they self-imposed sanctions, admirable, admirable?”

    “Well, hold on,” Pate said.

“They looked at the schedule and they said alright, here’s our wrist, we’re gonna slap it, but not in week one or week two,” Pate added.

“We’re gonna suspend our head coach, but wait for it, he really wants to coach the Oklahoma game, that’s where he went, so we’re going to wait until week three, and week four, that’s when we’re going to suspend him.

“And then they just left, they just walked out of the room and expected everyone to take that seriously, of course that’s a joke,” Pate concluded about the Wolverines’ suspension.

“This is classic SMA protocol, that’s the ‘Spank Myself Approach,” Pate added, continuing to criticize the Wolverines’ decision.

    Josh Pate Questions Michigan’s Strategy

Josh Pate suggested a serious punishment for the Wolverines if they broke any rules. He further added that if this happens, Michigan will suffer very badly.

“For several level-1 violations (if upheld?),” he wrote. “Massive fines, loss of scholarships, and a multi-year postseason ban.”

Furthermore, he also added that Michigan has already taken action by suspending Moore for a two-game suspension that will be held in 2025.

He is being penalized for deleting 52 messages with Stallions. He probably won’t be able to watch the games in Week 3 (against Central Michigan) and Week 4 (against Nebraska).

Moreover, after the incident, Athletic also forwarded quotes from an unnamed coach who said that the NCAA should take strict action against the Wolverines and impose a heavy penalty for their conduct.

“I promise you that coaches still care about this,” a Power 4 head coach — not in the Big Ten — said this week. “This was a major deal, and you can’t minimize it. It’s bad for college football. (Stealing signals) might be more common than you think, but the extremes they went to? I’ve never heard of anything like it, and they need to get the hammer.”

Lastly, as the days of hearing grow closer, the issue is getting more tense, and no one has any idea what the NCAA will decide. Now, it’s totally an NCAA decision, and everyone is rooting for it.
