Hayes’s Dodge Durango reportedly slammed into a Kia Soul at a busy intersection. Two children and an elderly woman didn’t survive the collision. Hayes suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
While the authorities have ruled out alcohol, they have stated that they are now looking into speeding by Hayes.
As of Monday morning, Hayes is still in the hospital, but not much more is known. Miami’s football program hasn’t made an official announcement yet, but social media’s been lighting up with messages from players and fans.

Hayes was a force back at Largo High School, racking up 108 tackles in his senior year and earning all-state honors. That talent put him on the national radar, landing him as the number three linebacker in the 2024 class, according to Rivals. Big-time schools came calling, and Hayes even committed to Florida at one point.
But Miami’s staff, especially linebackers coach Derek Nicholson, wouldn’t take no for an answer. They flipped him, and when Hayes suited up in that orange and green, it felt like a homecoming for the Largo native. Last season, he played in 11 games, mostly on special teams, showing flashes of the playmaker he’s destined to be.
