The Ducks head into 2025 with an apparent void at the game’s most important position after seeing QB Dillon Gabriel depart via the 2025 NFL Draft.

They have a couple of talented options, however — but one rises above the others, according to Matt Prehm of Duck Territory as he joined an episode of the Cover 3 Podcast.

“I walked away [from the spring game] saying Austin Novosad and Luke Moga in particular have gotten better significantly and they are capable of, in my opinion, leading this team and Oregon could win nine or 10 regular season games with either of those guys at the helm,” Prehm said.

He continued, citing the one passer that could put them over the top.

“Now to get to the 12-0 discussion point or to get to the clear-cut ‘hey, you didn’t win the league but you’re 100% in the playoffs’ discussion, I think Dante Moore is gonna be the guy that elevates them to that level.

“But I think Oregon’s QB room is a lot better than I anticipated it being going into spring football. But Dante Moore is expected to be, externally, the starting quarterback in 2025.”

That’s high praise for Moore, who joined the Ducks prior to the 2024 season after spending 2023 with the UCLA Bruins.

A five-star prospect per 247Sports in the 2023 class, Moore played right away for the Bruins, throwing 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions before being benched after five games. He was inaccurate, completing just 53.5% of his passes.

The hope for head coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks is that a year spent behind the experienced and accomplished Gabriel will be a huge help in his development.

But the starting nod won’t be given to him right away, as Novosad and Moga are hot on his tail as talented passers in their own right.

However, as Prehm said, Moore is the one who has the talent to lead the team to their highest potential — which includes defending their Big Ten title and once again reaching the College Football Playoff.
