Top 5 Transfer Portal Players Transferring to Mid-Major Programs

Top Players Transfer Portal Addition for Mid-Major Programs

A college basketball content page on X sparked much debate when they posted their ranking of the top portal additions for mid-major programs heading into the 2025 season.

The top 5 was particularly interesting, as former Binghampton forward Gavin Walsh began the list. After averaging 11.3 points and 10.9 rebounds on 41.9% shooting from the field, he decided to join North Carolina Wilmington, who are coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance as the champions of the Colonial Athletic Conference.

At 6’8″, Walsh will bring a steady presence down low and will be a force on the boards, as he averaged a double-double a season ago.

Fourth on the list was former Brown forward Nana Owusu-Anane, who scored 14.7 points and grabbed 8.8 rebounds in 2024. He’s set to join the GCU Antelopes for his final year of eligibility.

A rather rare major D-I transfer was the No. 3 spot, as the former Kansas State guard contributed 11.4 points and 4.9 assists during his junior season. The 5’11” guard averaged 6.3 points the season prior as Michigan’s point guard.

For 2025, he’ll be running point for Memphis, which is losing star guard P.J. Haggerty to the portal.

Josh Pascarelli came next, as the former Marist guard scored 15.9 points on 44.8% from the field last season. He’ll presumably slide right in as Colorado State’s starting combo guard, as they’re seeing the departure of both starting guards.

The top spot goes to former UNLV guard Jaden Henley, who averaged 12.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists during his junior season with the Rebels. He also opted to join GCU as they attempt to make it three straight NCAA Tournaments.

The coverage in the sport of college basketball isn’t centered around the mid-majors — yet once March Madness comes around in 2026, these are a couple of players that may make their presence felt.
