Auburn’s Eric Singleton Jr. Could Break 20-Year NFL Draft Drought

Auburn Wide Receiver Singleton Jr could be set for a breakout season next year, according to information from Auburn Insider and Podcast The Barn, who recently discussed Freeze’s plans for the recent transfer portal pickup.

According to ON3’s Pete Nakos, Singleton Jr was the best wide receiver in this year’s transfer portal, and second-best overall pickup behind Oklahoma’s John Mateer. The former Georgia Tech receiver also had offers from Ole Miss, Texas, Miami, and LSU.

On his most recent episode of The Barn, the Auburn Tigers expert discussed how Singleton Jr would fit into Freeze’s offense next season, with the Head Coach potentially having to revamp his season completely.

“Auburn has not had prolific passing attacks, and for this offense and this system, I think we’re gonna have to retrain our brains to understand what to expect out of our offense, because I think they’re going to put it in the air a good bit this year.” the Tigers fan explained.

“And hopefully you can utilise tools like Eric Singleton Jr, to help, you know, be very explosive, and he has all the potential to be explosive.”

The Podcast host also discussed how the pickup of the former Georgia Tech Wide receiver could affect Head Coach Freeze’s reputation, claiming that he has the power to turn Singleton Jr. into a first-round talent.

“You know it’d be great for Hugh Freeze, to be able to take a kid like Eric Singleton Jr, with these type of accolades, and nail it, and have it work out like predicted, and he be a first or second round pick, it’d be massive for Auburn, Auburn need it.”

Eric Singleton Jr. Could Break 20-Year NFL Draft Drought

In the most recent episode of his Podcast, Barn also discussed the potential for Singleton Jr. to end Auburn’s 20-year NFL Draft drought after a list from Pro Football Focus dropped, revealing Singleton Jr. is in the top 10 Wide receivers for next year’s draft.

“PFF has put out the top 10 wide receivers to know, for the 2026 NFL Draft, and our boy Eric Singleton has made the list, and he hasn’t ranked them, or anything, he’s just said here are the top 10 wide receivers in the country that we are looking at as potential NFL Prospects.”

“His 1468 receiving yards, across his two years with the Yellowjackets, stands second amongst returning Power four wideouts, 664 of his receiving yards from 2023 were from deep balls, he led all Power four returning receivers on deep balls.” Pro Football Focus described the attributes of the potential Draft prospects.

“Let’s put that in context, so if he’s a top 10 wide receiver, and lets say that translates into the draft, I think the wide receiver class this year was pretty weak as a whole, so that wold guarantee him, I think the tenth wide receiver was the second pick of the third round.”

“But, you have draft classes where 6 and 7 wide receivers are taken in the first round, and wide receivers are definitely a much higher priority position that the NFL targets in the draft, which puts him almost a guaranteed at worst, second round pick.”

“So, from an Auburn perspective, when’s the last time Auburn had a second-round wide receiver? You return to Tim Carter in 2002 to find an Auburn wide receiver who went in the first or second round.”

Tim Carter was selected by the New York Giants in the second round with the 14th overall pick in 2002, meaning that Singleton Jr.’s success going into the 2026 NFL Draft could make or break Auburn’s history.
