Donald Trump has always shown love for college football. He’s often seen at major games and speaks proudly about the sport’s rich traditions. But when it comes to actually shaping NCAA rules, he’s mostly stayed on the sidelines—until now.
Out of nowhere, Trump is now being linked to a new effort to “fix” NIL for NCAA sports. Reports suggest legendary Alabama coach Nick Saban is encouraging Trump to get involved politically. Saban is reportedly trying to team up with the U.S. President to lead a commission to overhaul college sports.

Analyst RJ Young Didn’t Hold Back on Trump’s Nick Saban NIL Plan—Here’s What He Said
Not everyone is on board. College football analyst RJ Young is calling out the idea with sharp criticism. He didn’t just question Trump’s role—he also took direct aim at Saban, calling the effort symbolic, unserious, and politically driven.
Young, one of college football’s most outspoken analysts, is calling out what he sees as a shallow attempt to “fix” college sports. On his podcast, “The Number One College Football Show,” Young had a lot to say about former President Donald Trump’s idea to form a new commission aimed at solving the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) mess.
“It sounds like a whole bunch of hand-wringing. It sounds like a whole bunch of old white dudes getting together to tell me what ain’t gonna happen… You think that Nick Saban is gonna be able to put together a commission that could fix this? Please. Please believe that’s not what’s gonna happen. That’s not what’s gonna go down,” he said.
Young believes the same people who got rich off the old college sports system are now trying to reshape it. But not to fix it.
Instead, Young says they want to keep their power and protect their influence.“The system that made him a multi-millionaire … is also the thing that he’s going to be restructuring. And I don’t think that he would be this into the restructuring if he was still in it,” Young added.
He also doesn’t think the new commission will solve much. The list of problems it claims to fix is just too long. NIL issues, transfer rules, Title IX, conference realignment—it’s all being thrown into one big basket.
Then Young noted, “While you’re at it, throw in there world peace in the Middle East… hunger, poverty, overpopulation, and climate change. Let’s do it all. Throw it all in the commission because that’s essentially what the h*** that they’re going to be discussing.”
He suggested that Trump should focus on serious problems instead of getting involved in something as unimportant as college football.

However, while we don’t know exactly why, Young is completely against politics interfering in college football, but what he said made that one point pretty obvious.
