Expert Suggests Even Worst Case for Texas is Nine Wins After 13-3 Season, Playoff Contention Likely

The Texas Longhorns had an excellent season under head coach Steve Sarkisian last year. They won 13 games and advanced to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.

Heading into this year, experts believe the Longhorns can make the College Football Playoff again.

Andy Staples Believes Texas Will Win at Least Nine Games, Playoff Appearance

On3 analyst Andy Staples believes the Longhorns should be expected to win, at worst, nine games and be playing for an SEC title.

He recently talked about his thoughts on the Longhorns’ 2025 season on The Old Fashioned Sports Show. “This team’s got the highest floor in the SEC…even if things go bad (Texas) should win nine games…they’re going to be a Playoff team and playing for an SEC championship.”

Even if the Longhorns have to replace quarterback Quinn Ewers, wide receivers Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond, and plenty of defenders, the roster is still in good shape.

With the talented Arch Manning taking over under center, the Longhorns and their fans have reason for hope.

    A Favorable Schedule for Texas

The Longhorns don’t have an easy start to the season as they will have to face the reigning national champions, Ohio State, on the road to kick off the year.

However, aside from a late-season, road showdown with the Georgia Bulldogs in mid-November and the “Red River Rivalry” in mid-October, the schedule is quite favorable for head coach Sarkisian and Co.

Teams likely need to win at least 10 games to get into the College Football Playoff.

Even if the Longhorns were to lose to both the Buckeyes and the Bulldogs, they’d still have a great shot at making the dance at the end of the season.

With plenty of eyes being on Manning as he is now the full-time starter, the Longhorns will look to be at their best with the lights at their brightest.

It might not get any brighter for them than when they face off against the Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio, on Aug 30 at the start of the college football year.
