The Biggest Conference Title Game Blowouts in College Football History

Let’s take a look at the biggest blowouts in each conference’s championship history, some legendary, others unexpected, but all unforgettable.

    Big 12 – Texas 70, Colorado 3 (2005)

    Margin: 67 points

The biggest blowout in conference title game history came in the 2005 Big 12 Championship, when Texas, led by Vince Young, dismantled Colorado 70–3. The Longhorns scored at will and left no doubt about their dominance.

This 67-point destruction helped secure their place in the national championship game, where they would later beat USC in one of the sport’s most iconic matchups.

    Big Ten – Ohio State 59, Wisconsin 0 (2014)

    Margin: 59 points

In a game that served as a final audition for the College Football Playoff, Ohio State made a statement like no other. Backup quarterback Cardale Jones stepped in and led the Buckeyes to a 59-0 shutout of Wisconsin.

The win not only punched their ticket to the playoff, it erased any doubts about their legitimacy. They went on to win the national championship.

    ACC – Clemson 62, Virginia 17 (2019)

    Margin: 45 points

The 2019 ACC Championship Game showcased Clemson at the peak of its powers. With Trevor Lawrence under center, the Tigers blasted Virginia 62–17. The 45-point rout was another notch in Clemson’s playoff resume and a reminder of their supremacy in the ACC during the late 2010s.

    Conference USA – FAU 49, UAB 6 (2019)

    Margin: 43 points

In the same season Clemson crushed Virginia, Florida Atlantic delivered its own beatdown. Under Lane Kiffin, the Owls rolled UAB 49–6 in the Conference USA Championship, completely overwhelming the Blazers with a balanced and explosive attack.

    SEC – Auburn 56, South Carolina 17 (2010)

    Margin: 39 points

In the 2010 SEC title game, Cam Newton and the Auburn Tigers torched South Carolina 56–17. Newton was electric, accounting for six touchdowns and securing the Heisman Trophy shortly afterward. Auburn’s dominant win propelled them into the national championship, which they would go on to win.

    Pac-12 – Oregon 51, Arizona 13 (2014)

    Margin: 38 points

After suffering a regular-season loss to Arizona, Oregon got revenge in dramatic fashion. In the 2014 Pac-12 Championship, Marcus Mariota led the Ducks to a 51–13 win, avenging their earlier loss and locking in a spot in the inaugural College Football Playoff. Mariota would go on to win the Heisman.

    MAC – Ohio 38, Miami (OH) 3 (2024)

    Margin: 35 points

One of the most recent entries, the 2024 MAC Championship Game, was all Ohio Bobcats. They crushed Miami (OH) 38–3, showing dominance on both offense and defense. The 35-point margin is the largest in MAC title game history and signaled a major moment for the Bobcats program.

Mountain West – Utah State 46, San Diego State 13 (2021)

    Margin: 33 points

Utah State stunned the Mountain West in 2021 with a decisive 46–13 win over San Diego State. The Aggies’ 33-point victory came as a surprise to many, as SDSU had entered the game ranked and favored. Instead, Utah State took control early and never looked back.

    Sun Belt – Marshall 31, Louisiana 3 (2024)

    Margin: 28 points

In another 2024 blowout, Marshall crushed Louisiana 31–3 to win the Sun Belt Championship. The Thundering Herd dominated defensively, holding the Ragin’ Cajuns to just a field goal. It was the program’s biggest win since joining the Sun Belt.

    Margin: 24 points

The 2016 AAC title game saw Temple shut down Navy in a 34–10 win.
