Last season, several teams came close to going undefeated, but none made it all the way. Many stayed perfect throughout the season, only to lose in the College Football Playoff or during tough late-season games. In the end, not a single team finished with such a record.
But going undefeated shows which teams are truly the most dominant in the league. With that perspective, CFB analyst Adam Breneman recently ranked the programs he believes have the highest chance of staying undefeated in the upcoming season.

Adam Breneman Reveals His Top 5 Picks With The Best Shot At An Undefeated Season In The 2025 Campaign
Now, as the 2025 season approaches, fans and experts believe we could finally see another team run the table. College football analyst Adam Breneman has already dropped his list of the top five teams most likely to go undefeated this year. And at the top of his list is Clemson.
“First up is Clemson,” Breneman said. “Cade Klubnik is back under a new center and a new offensive coordinator, Tom Allen.” While Clemson’s defense struggled last season, finishing 69th in the country, Breneman believes upgrades on that side of the ball could spark a turnaround.
Next on his list is Michigan. Led by Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2024, the Wolverines look ready for another big season. Breneman pointed out that Michigan’s toughest road games are against Oklahoma, Nebraska, and USC, joking, “Apparently, Ohio State isn’t a tough game for them anymore.”

At No. 3, Breneman picked Iowa State. With quarterback Rocco Becht and running back Carson Hansen returning, he believes their offense could lead the charge. Notre Dame comes in at No. 4. The analyst is confident in running back Jeremiyah Love and thinks their hardest test will come early. “Their toughest game is Week One against Miami,” he said.
Penn State grabs the fifth spot on Breneman’s list. With big names like Drew Aller, Nick Singleton, Katron Allen, and Demeioun Robinson all returning, the Nittany Lions have one of the deepest rosters in college football. If they can get past Ohio State, Breneman thinks going undefeated is absolutely on the table.
Finally, the former CFB player couldn’t ignore Texas. Though it’s more of a wild card, he still added the Longhorns as a bonus pick. He said, “Arch Manning is the Heisman favorite and despite only bringing back 29 % of its production on offense, Texas is basically everyone’s way -too -early number one in the country.”
Since 1990, 34 college football teams have finished their seasons undefeated. Powerhouse programs like Nebraska, Alabama, and Notre Dame have led the way with multiple perfect seasons. Last season, however, no college football team achieved a perfect season. But just before that, Georgia and Michigan went undefeated in 2022 and 2023.

However, those picks of Adam Breneman’s are just predictions. And as always, we know that college football loves to surprise us. But if Arch Manning lives up to the hype, this could be a season to remember.
