Garrett Nussmeier is sticking around for one more season with LSU. Draft analyst Todd McShay believes the quarterback has a bright future.

Todd McShay Compliments LSU Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier
Nussmeier could’ve entered this year’s NFL Draft. Instead, the LSU Tigers quarterback decided to stay another year in Baton Rouge in an attempt to chase a national championship. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. rated Nussmeier as the No. 7 draft-eligible passer before he chose not to declare. Draft analyst Todd McShay is high on him, as well.
“I think people are a lot lower on Nussmeier than I am,” McShay said Thursday on “The McShay Show.” “I like this guy, man. I like his anticipation, I like the way he throws, I think he’s gonna be channeled and bottled up a little bit — son of an NFL coach. … Last year for Nussmeier was showing the world the flashes and the instincts and kind of the creativity in the pocket, the way he’s able to make some throws down the field into tight windows.”
McShay pointed out that Nussmeier’s willingness to risk backfires sometimes, but his overall talent is too tempting to ignore.
“The highs are so high,” McShay said. “The A&M game was a perfect example. He was rolling, man….. Remember that throw? He was rolling out to the left, they’re winning in that game, and it was, like, three straight games he was playing lights out.”
“And he was rolling to his left, and he just kind of threw it back over the middle, like the No. 1 mistake you don’t make, especially when his dad is coaching quarterbacks and offense in the National Football League.”
McShay clarified that he likes Nussmeier’s trajectory and believes he could be the first quarterback taken. Former Alabama quarterback and current ESPN analyst Greg McElroy rated Nussmeier as the No. 5 signal-caller in the sport entering this season.
“It’s, I think, kind of amazing that Garrett Nussmeier is still, in many ways, kind of flying under the radar,” McElroy said. “Like, I feel like he’s a guy that had such a great year last year, but people have pointed to some of the mistakes that were made, like the interception thrown against A&M.”

“People have kind of focused on the negative while I look at Nussmeier and I look at some of those interceptions (like), ‘Yeah, he’s a gunslinger, like he takes chances with the football.”
