As spring practice wraps up, the 15 University of Washington football players who transferred are now familiar faces. The team has gotten even stronger by landing the No. 1 prospect, Derek Colman-Brusa, making him the 16th addition.
Although he just committed, his recruitment began in early February when Brandon Huffman named him one of the top five players the program needed to land this offseason. Interestingly, even though all those schools were in his home state, the four-star EDGE rusher chose the Huskies over powerhouse programs like USC, Ohio State, and Oregon.

4-Star Edge Derek Colman-Brusa Commits to Washington Over National Powers
In February, 247Sports recruiting editor Brandon Huffman received a question about the five players Washington most needed in the 2026 class. Without a second thought, he named one local star. “Easily Derek Colman-Brusa,” Huffman told The Seattle Times on February 24. “They absolutely have to get him.”
Fast forward to May 4, and Washington did just that. The Huskies landed a massive win by getting a commitment from Colman-Brusa, the top in-state player in the 2026 class.
The four-star EDGE rusher from Kennedy Catholic High School made his commitment official on May 4, choosing Washington over USC, Ohio State, and Oregon. This decision also keeps him close to family, as he’ll join his brother, Lowen Colman-Brusa—a 2025 offensive line signee—who will enroll at UW this summer.

Colman-Brusais is currently ranked No. 159 overall and No. 21 among EDGE rushers in the 2026 class. Last season, he significantly impacted the field with 68 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks. His quickness and power make him one of the most exciting young defenders in the country.
His commitment has elevated Washington’s 2026 recruiting class nationally to the No. 16 spot. They’re aiming for the top 15, especially after flipping five-star offensive tackle Kodi Greene from Oregon earlier this month.

Along with Colman-Brusa and Greene, they’ve also landed top cornerback Tacario Davis. The team is focused on adding elite talent to prepare for tough Big Ten matchups.
