The talk of the college football world during the 2023 season has certainly centered around one specific program and one specific person. That’s Coach Prime, Deion Sanders, former FSU legend, college football Hall of Famer, NFL Hall of Famer, father, and head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes.
After taking the college football world by storm, a narrative continues to be pushed: Will Deion Sanders coach in the NFL? Coach Prime took to ESPN’s First Take to address that.
Deion Sanders: “I’m Not Going to the NFL”
Simple words. Coach speak. Certainty surrounding an uncertain issue.
Say what you will about Coach Sanders and how he’s addressed the issues in the past, it certainly does seem like he’s found a home in Boulder. And that he’s building something special.
Speaking on ESPN’s First Take, Sanders answered the question again, this time with specifics.
“I’m not going to the NFL,” Sanders said when asked about whether he’d think about leaving Colorado to continue coaching his son, Sheduer Sanders. “I like it here in Boulder.”
Famously, Sanders has coached his son Shedeur since their time in high school, at Jackson State, and now with the Buffs, missing only games he had to due to his own foot issues.
Sanders Doubles Down on No-NFL Claim
Stating his non-intentions of jettisoning the college football ranks for the NFL on Friday ahead of their in-state rivalry matchup against Colorado State Rams, Sanders made it clear that those stating one way or another with certainty are either right or flat-out wrong.
Famous Colorado alum and Fox Big Noon analyst Joel Klatt spoke to Fox’s Colin Cowherd just the day prior, all but confirming Sanders’ sentiment.
“Deion doesn’t want to coach in the NFL,” Klatt said. “He’s told me that point blank to my face.”
Sanders’ recent statements indicate Klatt is indeed accurate and it appears he has no intentions of leaving Colorado for the NFL.
Time will tell, obviously, but as of right now, the Deion Sanders media storm that is the Colorado Buffaloes appears like it’s here to stay.
The Buffaloes take on Colorado State in a heavy-anticipated and ‘personal’ matchup, headlining the Week 3 slate in college football.
