Rocco Becht Reveals Iowa State’s Unfinished Business Heading Into Offseason

Iowa State wrapped up last season with a big win at the Pop-Tarts Bowl. But the team didn’t stay in celebration mode for long because quarterback Rocco Becht said that they always have their eyes on the Big 12 Championship. It’s been 134 years since Iowa State last won the title.

In the meantime, they came close multiple times to that milestone but failed to bring the trophy home. In a recent conversation, Becht clarified that the team is working hard under head coach Matt Campbell to ensure they don’t wait another year to finish the job.

Rocco Becht Says Pop-Tarts Bowl Couldn’t Contain Big 12 Title Hunger

Iowa State had a historic season, finishing with 11 wins, the best in their program history. Their final game was a thrilling 42-41 victory over Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Quarterback Becht led the game-winning drive, capping it off with a 1-yard rushing touchdown in the final minute.

However, despite the excitement of their bowl win, Iowa State’s ultimate goal to win the Big 12 Championship remained in the shadows. They reached the conference title game but lost 45-19 to Arizona State, which kept them out of the College Football Playoff.

Still, the 21-year-old has made it clear that while the Pop-Tarts Bowl win was a great moment, the team is focused on unfinished business—finally claiming a Big 12 title, something Iowa State hasn’t done in over a century.

While speaking to “The Morning Show,” Becht said, “We had the Pop-Tarts Bowl at the end of the year. And so, you know, we’re able to win that, have good momentum going into the offseason, and now I think that just kind of sparked this team again, like, we still have unfinished business.”

According to the Cyclones’ starting QB, head coach Matt Campbell has emphasized the importance of winning the Big 12 title, keeping the team focused on their mission. “We haven’t done that now in 134 years. Um, and so that’s always been implemented into our brains by Coach Campbell for the past couple of months. Um, and so that’s our goal right now,” the rising star added.

Last season, the Cyclones were so close to winning the Big 12 title but fell short. With Coach Campbell pushing them to fix mistakes, the team is more motivated than ever. They’re ready to carry that momentum into the upcoming season and relentlessly chase their ultimate goal.
