Tennessee Scores Big in Transfer Portal Again with Colorado 5’11” Cornerback Colton Hood’s Commitment

Programs like the Tennessee Volunteers have recently become very active in the transfer portal. In just a few days, they’ve seen multiple players transfer in and out of their roster, with many of their athletes committing to the Colorado Buffaloes.

But the run isn’t over yet. Today, Tennessee took what feels like a bit of revenge against Colorado by landing cornerback Colton Hood, who had recently entered the NCAA transfer portal alongside his younger brother, Brandon Hood.

Colorado Transfer CB Colton Hood Commits to Tennessee

Tennessee football made a key move in the transfer portal by landing former Colorado cornerback Hood. The timing couldn’t be better, as the Volunteers are currently dealing with an ACL injury to star cornerback Jerod McCoy. Despite McCoy’s anticipated return this fall, Tennessee required additional support in the secondary. And Hood fits the bill perfectly.

Interestingly, the Georgia native was initially expected to replace the Heisman contender Travis Hunter at Colorado. But instead of stepping up for the Buffaloes, Hood will now wear orange and white to help Tennessee chase big goals in the SEC.

The 5’11 “1”, 190-pound corner brings three years of eligibility with him. Shortly after his commitment, Hood shared the news on social media, tweeting“Let’s do it Vol family #GBO #HoodEra thank you Jesus”!” His excitement is clear, and the Vols fan base is just as thrilled to have him on board.

Last season, Hood played in all 13 games for Colorado, starting in two of them. He recorded 24 tackles, two interceptions, one tackle-for-loss, and six pass breakups. Impressively, both of his interceptions were returned for a combined 105 yards.

Looking back at his high school career, Hood was ranked as the No. 38 cornerback and No. 375 overall prospect in the 2023 class by the 247Sports Composite. His clean injury history and experience make him a solid and reliable addition for the Vols.

Tennessee will also return Rickey Gibson and Jalen McMurray to the cornerback position. Additionally, we anticipate some opportunities for Kaleb Beasley, a former four-star recruit. With Hood joining the mix, Tennessee gains added depth at cornerback while McCoy continues his rehab.

The hope is that Hood will establish himself in the rotation before McCoy returns, making Tennessee’s defense even more dangerous in the SEC.
