A heated thread on Reddit’s r/CollegeBasketball has sparked widespread backlash as users named the “worst player” to wear their school’s jersey over the past 20 years. The post drew strong reactions, with fans calling out notorious underperformers and unexpected names, most notably former Wisconsin standout Alando Tucker.
Once hailed as a top-five player in Badgers history during his 2002–07 run, Tucker’s legacy has since taken a hit. His controversial turn as interim assistant coach—after a tragic crash sidelined assistant Howard Moore—has significantly shifted public opinion.

Controversial Reddit Thread Lists CBB’s “Worst Players,” Including Alando Tucker
A recent Reddit thread on r/CollegeBasketball asked fans to identify the “worst player” at their favorite school from the past 10-20 years, sparking nearly 200 upvotes and hundreds of comments naming disappointing talents and problematic personalities across college basketball programs.
The original poster, a Purdue fan, started by naming Ronnie Johnson as their program’s worst.
“That guy had a horrible attitude and actively tried to dissuade recruits from committing,” they wrote, adding an “honorable mention to Donnie Hale” while noting Purdue “had some really bad teams in 2013/2014.”
Wisconsin fans highlighted a surprising villain: former player-turned-coach Tucker. One commenter explained Tucker, initially beloved as a player (2002-2007), returned as an interim assistant in 2019 but “sets a meeting with the AD and tries a coup to get himself named head coach” despite being in his first coaching job.
According to the post, Tucker undermined head coach Greg Gard by, “telling players to ignore the HC” and ultimately released “a heavily edited 30 min audio file” to local media containing “only snippets of players blasting the head coach.”
The comment concluded:
“Tucker went from one of the most beloved former players to being hated on the same level as Grayson Allen.”
Iowa State fans pointed to highly-rated recruit Omaha Biliew, who, “produced practically nothing and now barely contributes at Wake Forest.” Another noted he “looked like a newborn giraffe out there. Lost on defense and couldn’t stay on his feet.”
The most frequent target across multiple fanbases was Hunter Dickinson, who was mentioned by Kansas, Michigan, and nearly Kentucky and Purdue fans. One Purdue supporter reflected:
“I remember when it looked like he was headed to Purdue. I was really disappointed at the time that Hunter Dickinson passed on us and we got stuck with Zach Edey. I’m a moron.”

Iowa fans united around John Lickliter, with one fan explaining he was a “coach’s son ended up being a NAIA player. Not a Big Ten point guard.”
The thread included a memorable photo of Lickliter attempting a shot against a much taller defender, with commenters surprised to learn “he actually made this shot.”
The lighthearted discussion offered fans a chance to vent about disappointing players while highlighting how recruitment expectations don’t always match on-court reality.
