Feel like you can’t lose betting on UTSA? Fancy the Black Knights to get your bank balance in the green? If you’re going to take advantage of the UTSA vs. Army odds, consider some of the following factors before you part with your hard-earned cash.
UTSA comes into this game as a favorite, and I think that’s the correct play here. While Army holds a 2-1 historical head-to-head advantage, the Roadrunners nosed a close game last season. There’s been some teething problems early on this season, but Jeff Traylor’s team should have the measure of the Black Knights on Friday night.
The moneyline on this game is closer than most of the other games early in college football Week 3, tied with Utah State at Air Force, but if you’re looking to up the ante with your college football betting, then the spread might be appealing. The Roadrunners are 0-2 against the spread and our UTSA vs. Army prediction suggests they might struggle to cover.
Although both teams have potentially explosive offenses — Army put up 57 points on Delaware State last time out — two good defenses might keep this from being the runaway, free-scoring game we saw a year ago. As such, the under might be the way to go. Both of UTSA’s game in 2023 came under the line, as did Army’s season-opening defeat to Louisiana-Monroe.

There are three Friday college football games to compile your DFS team from in Week 3. If you’re new to DFS, Fanduel Superflex contests require you to select a quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers, then a “superflex” than can be any of the above or you can also select a tight end in the superflex spot.
Let’s start with something that I never thought I’d hear, let alone say, and that is you need to seriously consider placing an Army wide receiver in your DFS picks.
As the Black Knights veer away from being a fully-fledged option offense, Isaiah Alston has become one of their most valuable offensive assets. Alston has 182 yards and two scores off just six receptions in 2023.
There’s actually an embarrassment of riches at the WR in this game, with UTSA pass catcher Joshua Cephus tallying 163 yards and a score from his 16 catches.
One thing to watch out for here is the status of De’Corian Clark. The standout UTSA WR dressed for the game against Texas State, but didn’t play. His return is expected for Friday, which could transform the UTSA offense.
UTSA QB Frank Harris would have been an easy shout at QB last season, but has endured a torrid start to the year and took a knock in the win over Texas State. Dual-threat Bryson Daily and his 45.76 fantasy points might be a value selection instead, depending on his cost compared to your lineup.
UTSA rusher Kevorian Barnes would be my first choice at the RB position for Friday’s slate.
Prediction for UTSA vs. Army
Okay, so we’ve furnished you with the UTSA vs. Army odds and some DFS picks and it’s time to close this thing out with our UTSA vs. Army prediction.
Can the Black Knights extend their head-to-head record to 3-1 with a win on the road in San Antonio, or will we see the Roadrunners return to their best form and kickstart their Group of Five bowl game bid?
As college football adapts, so have service academies like Army have as well. Gone are the days of lining up and ramming the traditional triple-option down the throat of shell-shocked defenses.
Gone with it is the grind them down and run over them advantage that Black Knights teams often held over their opponent.
However, they replace it with the element of surprise via a surprisingly efficient passing game in the hands of QB Daily and WR Alston.
Backing up that offense is a defense that has allowed just 17 points through two games. They have the ability and opportunity to be competitive against one of the best Group of Five teams, as demonstrated last year.
Despite this, UTSA possesses enough talent on both sides of the ball to earn their second win of the season. Linebacker Trey Moore should be too much of a handful for a good Army offensive line to deal with, a secondary led by Rashad Wisdom will be the best they’ve faced this year.
Running back Barnes should be the offensive catalyst to inflict Army a second defeat of the year.
Prediction: UTSA 24, Army 17
