Brady’s decision to enter the transfer portal on April 23, 2025, was part of a larger departure of Cal wide receivers; six players from the position group have left the team since the end of the 2024 season.
Notable exits include Mike Matthews and Nyziah Hunter, leaving the Bears with no option but to rebuild their receiving corps with additions like UNLV transfer Jacob de Jesus and North Dakota transfer Quaron.
Miami’s interest in Brady was due to their recent transfer portal strategy; the urgency have been proactive in seeking out talent to fill gaps in their roster, most importantly a wide receiver, as they lost sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Horton to the portal in December last year.
