Cal Transfer WR Jonathan Brady Visiting Miami Hurricanes as ACC Interest Explodes

Jonathan Brady, a California Golden Bear wide receiver who was a former New Mexico State star, has made himself a name with 98 career catches for 1,317 yards and 10 touchdowns. He is currently on the radar of several ACC programs.

As On3’s Pete Nakos reported yesterday, he will visit the Miami Hurricanes this week. Notably, Miami is not the only ACC school in the race to sign the young talent. Another conference rival has reportedly entered the race, making securing him a high-stakes battle.

Miami’s deep race for Brady is evident in its aggressive approach to the portal. The Hurricanes aim to strengthen their receiving corps following the strong 2024 season. With all the transfer activity happening, the ACC scene is buzzing right now, as schools like Tennessee and Penn State are also making diverse moves by targeting top talent.

As Brady’s recruitment heats up, his decision could have significant implications for the Hurricanes and the conference.

Jonathan Brady Sets Visit With Miami as ACC Battle Begins

Brady’s upcoming visit to Miami is very important in his transfer journey. The 5’11’’ 180-pound receiver, who wears the No. 6 jersey, has proven himself as a great playmaker.
In his time at Cal, he was a key contributor in the Bears’ dramatic comeback victory over Stanford in 2024, catching the final two touchdown passes of the game.

His performance demonstrated his ability to deliver exceptionally in high-pressure situations, a trait that has undoubtedly caught the attention of Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff.

Brady’s decision to enter the transfer portal on April 23, 2025, was part of a larger departure of Cal wide receivers; six players from the position group have left the team since the end of the 2024 season.

Notable exits include Mike Matthews and Nyziah Hunter, leaving the Bears with no option but to rebuild their receiving corps with additions like UNLV transfer Jacob de Jesus and North Dakota transfer Quaron.

Miami’s interest in Brady was due to their recent transfer portal strategy; the urgency have been proactive in seeking out talent to fill gaps in their roster, most importantly a wide receiver, as they lost sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Horton to the portal in December last year.

At 6’4” and 205 pounds, Horton was a former four-star recruit, a key target in Miami’s passing game. He ended the 2024 season with 56 receptions for 616 yards and five touchdowns. His departure hits the Hurricane roster hard, as they are now actively searching for a proven talent like Brady.
