The 2025 NFL draft in Green Bay wrapped up Saturday. There were plenty of headlines out of the annual event, but one of the main stories was former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ free fall from a projected top-five pick to a fifth-round selection.
NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders’ son’s slide was heavily debated on social media, with analysts weighing in on the matter. A former starting quarterback turned commentator also took aim at prank calls that occurred on Day Two of the draft.

RGIII Blasts Shedeur Sanders Prank and Saints’ Draft Decision in Fiery Reaction
Former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III took to X to voice his opinions on Sanders’ fall, the prank call and the New Orleans Saints’ decision to take former Louisville Cardinals quarterback Tyler Shough with the No. 40 overall pick in the second round.
Jax Ulbrich was completely wrong for helping prank call Shedeur Sanders when the New Orleans Saints were on the clock. Wasn’t funny. At All.
It shouldn’t have been a prank because the Saints shouldn’t have drafted Tyler Shough over Shedeur Sanders.https://t.co/GopLmU2Yst pic.twitter.com/4TCzTr7a0v

The former Buffaloes quarterback received a prank call during day two of the NFL Draft, with the caller impersonating as Saints general manager Mickey Loomis to tell Sanders that they would select him with their next pick.
The prank call came on Day Two of the draft, when Jax Ulbrich, son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, impersonated Saints general manager Mickey Loomis to tell Sanders he would be their next pick.
Ulbrich later apologized publicly and reached out to the Sanders family directly, according to reporter Zack Rosenblatt.
New Orleans ultimately took Shough, and Sanders waited until Day Three to hear his name called. In a video posted by Griffin, he said, “Shedeur Sanders should have been drafted by the New Orleans Saints.
Even Saints players like Cam Jordan are questioning why they took Tyler Shough over Shedeur Sanders. I know Shough has a strong arm — I remember him at Oregon, Texas Tech and Louisville — but he was teammates with Saints tight end Juwan Johnson six years ago at Oregon.”
Griffin added that Shough will be 26 in September and likely will back up Derek Carr, despite Carr’s shoulder issues.
On X, Griffin reiterated that Ulbrich’s prank “was completely in the wrong” and “wasn’t funny at all.”
Sanders wasn’t the only player to receive prank calls during the draft. Former Penn State tight end Tyler Warren was contacted just before the Indianapolis Colts selected him No. 14 overall, and former Ohio State and Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord said he received several prank calls before the Philadelphia Eagles picked him in the sixth round.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Falcons won’t discipline Jeff Ulbrich but will evaluate procedures to prevent a similar situation in the future.
