5-Star WR Micah Hudson Recommits to Texas Tech: A Transfer Portal Timeline

Micah Hudson, a standout wide receiver from Lake Belton High School in Temple, Texas, became one of the top recruits in the 2024 class. He earned a five-star status and became Texas Tech’s highest-rated signee ever.

Over his high school career, Hudson proved his playmaking skills, recording 202 catches for 3,868 yards and 37 touchdowns. He also ran for 1,243 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 19.1 yards per catch and excelling as a returner.

In his senior season, he had 70 catches for 1,353 yards and 18 touchdowns, earning District MVP honors and a spot in the 2024 All-American Bowl. As a freshman at Texas Tech in 2024, Hudson played in eight games and started one, but injuries limited his performance. He made eight receptions for 123 yards, averaging 15.4 yards per catch.

Micah Hudson Returns to Texas Tech

Hudson’s time at Texas A&M was short and rocky. After transferring from Texas Tech in December 2024, many thought he would become a big part of the Aggies’ offense. However, injuries and off-field problems, including rumors about a fight with quarterback Marcel Reed, kept him from making an impact.

Head coach Mike Elko confirmed Hudson left the team before spring practice in March 2025. Hudson returned to the transfer portal and had interest from schools like Utah, but on April 27, he announced he was returning to Texas Tech.

His move back to Lubbock, where he was the Red Raiders’ first-ever five-star recruit, gives him a second chance to shine under Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire. Fans are excited and hopeful he can have a big 2025 season.

McGuire talked about Hudson’s struggles with injuries back in December.

“The injury affected him to where, going through camp, of like how he was progressing and getting caught up, and then he really got to where we were like ‘OK, he’s really got his legs beneath him, here we go’ and then he gets hurt again,” McGuire said.

He also mentioned that Hudson was close to making a big play late in the season.

“We’re a play away from him, he’s wide-open if we hit him in the endzone, he catches the game-winner against TCU,” McGuire said.

McGuire also said he wished Hudson had come in healthier from the start.

“Does everybody feel the same and everything like that? I do wish, when you go back…that he comes in healthy, that he hadn’t been playing high school football with that kind of knee injury and it would have already been done and he would have been back quicker and stuff like that and I think that would have changed some stuff,” McGuire said.

Now back at Texas Tech, Hudson has a chance to reset and fulfill the high expectations that once made him a five-star recruit. With a fresh start, fans are hopeful he can stay healthy and finally show his true potential on the field.
