Panthers Honor Legendary Carolina WR Muhsin Muhammad’s Legacy With Signing of Moose Muhammad III

The football cleats hanging in Muhsin “Moose” Muhammad’s home now have a chance to make fresh imprints on the same Carolina turf where his father once dazzled fans. In what feels like a script too perfect for Hollywood, the Carolina Panthers have signed Muhsin Muhammad III as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft.

For longtime Panthers fans who still wear faded No. 87 jerseys on Sundays, the signing represents something deeper than football strategy—it’s the continuation of a family story woven into the very fabric of franchise history.

Panthers Continue Family Legacy With Signing of WR Moose Muhammad III

When Muhammad III steps onto the practice field in Carolina blue for the first time, he’ll walk the same path his father traveled nearly three decades earlier.

The younger Muhammad, who grew up in Charlotte hearing stories of his dad’s legendary catches and community impact, comes home after five seasons at Texas A&M, where he collected 81 receptions, 1,163 yards, and 12 touchdowns.

“There’s something special about seeing that name on the back of a Panthers jersey again,” remarked a season ticket holder who watched the elder Muhammad’s entire Carolina career. “It brings back so many memories.”

While sentimentality surrounds the signing, the reality of professional football remains unforgiving. Muhammad III joins a crowded receivers room featuring splashy draft pick Tetairoa McMillan and veteran Adam Thielen. He’ll need more than his last name to stick on the roster.

“We see potential in him,” Panthers GM Dan Morgan explained, his eyes reflecting both respect for the past and clear-eyed assessment of the present. “The Muhammad legacy means everything to this organization, but Muhsin III will have every opportunity to create his own path here.”

Living Up to a Legendary Name

The weight of expectations would crush many young players. After all, following a father who ranks second in franchise history for receptions (696), receiving yards (9,255), and touchdowns (50) seems nearly impossible.

Panthers fans still talk about “Moose” Muhammad’s clutch catches, his leadership during the Super Bowl XXXVIII run, and how he embodied what it meant to be a Panther both on and off the field.

“Dad always told me to be myself,” Muhammad III shared during his first media session, fidgeting slightly with the new Panthers cap that sits atop his head. “He said the name on the back means something, but what matters more is what I do to honor it.”

For the Panthers organization, currently rebuilding under coach Dave Canales, the signing represents a beautiful marriage of pragmatism and poetry. While Muhammad III must earn every snap through performance, the emotional connection his presence brings to a franchise seeking to reconnect with its storied past is undeniable.

As summer training approaches and Muhammad III prepares for his first professional season, something almost spiritual happens in Charlotte.
