Among several players, Shedeur Sanders was the only player whose name had not been called by the time the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft ended. Despite being hailed as a top-tier prospect in the past, Sanders was taken ahead of Jalen Milroe and Dillon Gabriel.
And as the internet wouldn’t hold back, they made a meme storm that was both amusing and nasty out of it.

Internet Explodes With Savage Memes As Shedeur Sanders Gets Passed Over for Jalen Milroe and Dillon Gabriel
The NFL Draft never fails to surprise, and this year’s shocker came in the form of Sanders still waiting to hear his name as the third round wrapped up.
While many fans expected the Colorado quarterback to be among the early selections, social media went ablaze the moment Alabama’s Milroe was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks and Oregon’s Gabriel was scooped up by the Cleveland Browns, both in Round 3, while Sanders remained undrafted.

Memes and comments poured in immediately from fans, influencers, and sports pages across platforms like Threads, Reddit, and Instagram.
It all started with a now-viral prank call during Shedeur’s draft party. In the clip, someone jokingly calls to say, “You’re gonna have to wait a lil longer,” then hangs up. The internet’s response was influenced by the video, which went viral right away with captions such as “Pain,” “Tough scene,” and “Cold world,” when reposted on Instagram.
Other memes poked fun at the hype surrounding Sanders. His “I’m Him” social media assertion was contrasted in one well-liked image with the statement, “Him is still on hold.”
Another edited image showed Deion Sanders, his father and Colorado’s head coach, pitting on pads and making a joke that he might declare for the draft with his son in order to get him on a squad.
With their inventive “NFL GM Starter Pack,” Reddit’s r/nflmemes community implied that teams hesitated to select Shedeur because of the media frenzy that follows Coach Prime. Fans joked, “Drafting Shedeur means you’re hiring his Dad as assistant GM.”
By contrast, both Gabriel and Milroe were commended for their late-season efforts. Gabriel’s brilliant play for Oregon and Milroe’s SEC success made convincing arguments for their selection spots. The caption for one of the memes that compared highlight clips read, “Milroe cooking while Shedeur waiting on DoorDash.”
However, despite the internet’s ruthlessness, Shedeur remained calm and tweeted, “Thank you, GOD, for EVERYTHING 🙏🏽,” on X (previously Twitter). In the face of public scrutiny, he later uploaded a video in which he calmly expressed his gratitude and focus, demonstrating maturity and humility.

Many analysts still believe Shedeur will sign with a team shortly through free agency or on Day 3 of the draft. His talent, leadership, and a strong arm are still valuable assets. The draft weekend is full of drama, surprises, and, yes, memes. And for Shedeur Sanders, the journey is far from over. The buzz might be loud, but Shedeur isn’t out; he’s only delayed.
Of course, even quarterbacks who weren’t selected early, like Brock Purdy and Dak Prescott, have become superstars. Finding the right system with patient coaching and sound development is crucial for Shedeur. Even though he hasn’t been selected yet, his NFL career is only getting started.
