According to a family statement per ESPN’s Shams Charania, Alijah Arenas is now out of the medically induced coma the hospital put him in. When he awoke, he was curious if anyone else was involved.

According to the family statement, Alijah’s first response after waking up was to ask if anybody was hurt in the accident, an act which has fans commending his upbringing and his selflessness.

“First thing he asked was ‘Did anyone get hurt?’ Even in trauma, thinking of others. That’s character beyond measure,” one comment reads.

Many comments followed suit, praising him for asking about any others involved.

Alijah is considered one of the best prospects in the class of 2025. He committed to USC in January after considering offers from several schools, including Kentucky and Kansas.

For now, though, he and his family will focus on his recovery. According to his family, Arenas remains intubated but has already shown “significant signs of progress within the last 24 hours.”
