When Will Mike Green Get Drafted? Analyzing the Marshall EDGE’s Potential Landing Spots on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft

Marshall Edge Rusher Mike Green is currently one of the hottest prospects to fall into the second round, after being projected by many, including ESPN’s Peter Schrager, to go in the first round.

Why Mike Green Fell to Day 2: Talent, Red Flags, and NFL Concerns

Green joins a stacked class of Round Two talent that many believe should have gone in the first round, including the likes of Luther Burden III, Will Johnson, and Shedeur Sanders.

Going into this year’s draft, according to PFF’s rankings, the Edge rusher from Marshall, who recorded the most sacks in College Football last season, is the second-best in this year’s class, with Penn State’s Abdul Carter topping the list. Despite this, multiple other players in his position went before Green, including James Pearce Jr, Shemar Stewart, and Mykel Williams.

Many believe that the reason Green’s draft prospects fell out of the first round was due to allegations surrounding the Marshall Edge Rusher. Speaking during the NFL Combine this year, Green revealed that he was the subject of two claims of sexual assault, both of which he denies, saying that he’s “done nothing wrong.”

Similar to Von Miller, the Marshall Edge Rusher is known for his explosive first step and ability to beat tackles with pure speed. This makes him an explosive pass rusher, and he recorded 17 sacks in 2024.

Despite his potential explosiveness, one of Green’s main weaknesses going into the NFL is that he lacks the build and strength to deal with NFL tackles, making him a potential liability when trying to defend against the Run Game.

    Cleveland Browns.

With the Browns currently holding the 33rd and 36th picks in the second round following a blockbuster trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars, they will have the ability to snag two of the most talented players remaining in the second round, with Mike Green among them. However, with Myles Garrett recently signing a new marquee contract, the Browns don’t currently have a glaring need at Edge Rusher, with more important positions needing to be addressed, such as Quarterback.

However, should the Browns choose to take Green off the board, they could potentially have one of the most explosive pass rushes in the NFL. Garrett also offsets the issues the Edge Rusher faces against the run, as he is one of the best run stoppers in the NFL, with a PFF ranking of 78.4, the 11th best in the NFL.

Overall, while Mike Green would have the potential ability to create an unstoppable partnership with Myles Garrett, the Browns are more likely to address more glaring issues early in the second round, most notably at Quarterback.

    Chicago Bears

With the 39th overall pick in this year’s Draft, the Bears could look to bolster their defense in the second round after bolstering their offense in the first round with a Tight End in Colston Loveland. With an edge rusher being one of their most glaring needs going into the second round, an explosive pass rusher to break up the game alongside Montez Sweat would be a huge addition to the Bears’ defence.

Despite having an extremely talented Secondary that made them one of the toughest teams to deal with defensively last season, according to PFN’s rankings, a pass rusher could potentially transform them into one of the top defenses in the NFL next season, with both a strong safety and a top pass rusher.

However, the Bears last season were one of the worst defences when it came to dealing with the Run game, conceding 153,467 yards. Their other top edge rusher, Montez Sweat, is also not among the best Run stoppers in the NFL, barely cracking above PFF’s average, ranking 72nd in the NFL. Chicago could instead make a move on an edge rusher who’s capable of dealing with the Run game, like Donovan Ezeiruaku.

    New England Patriots

In our most recent mock draft, CFN writer Bjorn Bergstrom has Green going to the New England Patriots early in the second round, with the 38th overall pick.

“Looking past those issues, his skillset is tremendous and has first-round talent written all over it,” explained Bergstrom in his most recent mock draft. After dealing with their Offensive Line issues, the next issue Mike Vrabel has to deal with is the pass rush. Despite picking up Harold Landry and K’Lavon Chaisson in free agency, they appear to still be looking at potential Edge Rush candidates, meeting with several in the build-up to the Draft.

A notable reason that Mike Green could be the perfect candidate for the New England Patriots is that, unlike the Bears and Browns, Mike Vrabel requires an explosive pass rusher specifically. This means that Green’s glaring issue with dealing with the Run game in the NFL could be overlooked by the organization ahead of the Second Round.

After falling out of the second round, despite his off-the-field issues, Mike Green is a clear first-round talent, who many believe will go early in the second round, which begins at 7 pm E.T. tonight.
