Will Campbell’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

Will Campbell has the size, strength, agility, and football IQ to step in right away as a starting offensive lineman, just as he did at LSU. His upright blocking stance makes him a unique prospect to watch, but more often than not, he makes it work.

Projecting him at the next level, Campbell seems to have enough range on tape to stick around as a left tackle. His average arm length is his biggest question mark, as there are some instances on tape where edge rushers can enter his chest with long-arm moves and bull rushes.

Nevertheless, he compensates for his length deficiency with elite athleticism, footwork, and rare compact power and torquing freedom. Factoring his talent, experience for his age, and positional value, he’s worthy of a top-10 pick, and potentially top-5 capital for the right team.

2025 NFL Draft Landing Spot for Will Campbell

With the fourth pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots selected Campbell.

The most commonly mocked landing spot for Campbell, the Patriots wasted very little time with their selection of the LSU tackle. Drake Maye got his marquee tackle to protect him for the future.

    Will Campbell’s NFL Draft Projection

In CSN’s 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft from April 12, Campbell landed in Round 1 with the fourth overall pick. James Fragoza has this to say:

The Patriots believe they have their QB1 in Drake Maye. Now, it’s time to protect their investment. Will Campbell’s lacking arm length will cause issues against longer, faster pass rushers, but he can make up for it with his foot quickness and technique. Even if he somehow falters on the edge, he can work inside and become an All-Pro guard.

And in CSN’s recent 3-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Brian Burden had this to say about Campbell’s selection to the New England Patriots in Round 1 with the fourth pick:

Can Will Campbell prove the model or the outlier to the rule? He’s been heavily scrutinized for his comparatively short 33-inch arms, with the thought process being that he projects more as a guard than a tackle at the next level.

That may very well be true, but he’s also a 6’6″, 325-pound handful who played over 2,500 snaps and started 38 games with the LSU Tigers, often against top-notch SEC competition.

If Carter does not fall into their laps, this should be a no-brainer for the Patriots, whose offensive line woes are well-documented, even after their multiple free agent additions.

Campbell’s weakness is run blocking. But, in nearly 1,600 pass blocking snaps, he allowed 49 pressures and four sacks. Are the Patriots more worried about Rhamondre Stevenson running for 2,000 yards, or Drake Maye staying upright for a full season?
