On the evening of Thursday, April 24, on his way to work, a witness by the name of Corbin Williams reportedly saw a Tesla Cybertruck that had crashed into a big tree earlier in the day in the Los Angeles area. Since then, it has been reported that the Cybertruck involved in the accident belongs to Alijah Arenas, a USC Trojans commit and five-star prospect.
Following the crash, reports state that curtain airbags had to be deployed and the car’s side windows broken to get Alijah out, as Tesla Cybertrucks don’t have manual releases as part of their features. Afterward, Alijah Arenas was hospitalized. Seeing as the Cybertruck crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree, Alijah was left in serious condition at the hospital.
Despite Scary Car Crash, Alijah Arenas Reportedly In “Stable Condition”
Alijah has been placed in an induced coma at the hospital. The decision to do this came about because the Cybertruck’s contact with the fire hydrant caused it to catch fire, thereby leading to Alijah’s smoke inhalation. According to the hospital, it is protocol to always place a patient in an induced coma after smoke inhalation for protection.
Despite the serious impact, the Los Angeles Police Department has stated that Alijah Arenas suffered no major bodily injuries.
Arenas is the 18-year-old son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, a former guard for the Arizona Wildcats during his college basketball career. He also played for four NBA teams throughout his professional career.
In 2025, Arenas’ talent and skills earned him a selection to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game. He is a high school basketball player who was set to start his college basketball career with the USC Trojans, choosing them over offers from Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, and Louisville. He announced his commitment to the Trojans on Jan. 30.
Arenas is one of the most sought-after recruits in this year’s college basketball recruiting class; he had originally been slated to graduate in the class of 2026 before reclassifying to graduate in the class of 2025.
Fans have expressed their sadness over the incident and have sent their best wishes to the Arenas family, praying and wishing for Alijah’s quick recovery.
Hearing that he suffered no significant bodily harm has been a breath of fresh air to many of his fans and others. For now, everyone is holding their breath, hoping for more good news about his health.
