Luther Burden III’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

Luther Burden III is a slot receiver with an impressive combination of speed, power, and agility. His 2023 campaign showed that he’s more than capable of taking on a high workload. His natural playmaking skills make him dangerous in space, and he has ball skills to spare when allowed to stretch the field vertically.

As a route runner, Burden has shown progress but still needs additional development. Granted, part of that comes down to the way he was used in college, but his route salesmanship still needs some work.

Burden should end up being an instant starting wide receiver at the NFL level. He has some inside-outside versatility with the ability to thrive on jet sweeps and end-arounds, and his YAC ability is arguably the best of any wide receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft class.

Luther Burden III’s NFL Draft Projection

In CSN’s 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft from April 12, Burden landed in Round 1 with the 32nd overall pick. James Fragoza has this to say:

What do the Eagles really need? Not much, really. But a dynamic WR3 like Luther Burden III could still open up their offense even further.

Whether he’s lining up in the slot, at the Z, as the X, or even in the backfield, LBIII can do it all.

And in CSN’s recent 3-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Brian Burden had this to say about Burden’s selection to the Washington Commanders in Round 1 with the 29th pick:

The Washington Commanders took huge strides forward last fall, reaching the NFC Championship game for the first time in 32 years. Now, coach Dan Quinn provides second-year phenom quarterback Jayden Daniels with more offensive options, taking Luther Burden III out of the SEC.

With over 2,200 career yards, Burden has proven he can play on the outside against high-level defenses, despite a dip in production in his junior year. Washington has gritty Terry McLaurin and dependable Zach Ertz, but Daniels needs another weapon as the team attempts to become a playoff mainstay in the NFC.
