LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has been tipped as one of the potential top picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Last season, he showed plenty of promise, and his ability to deliver long passes and throw with velocity has made him highly rated. The 22-year-old is praised for his accuracy and ability to place the ball into tight windows.
Nussmeier’s passing grade in 2024 was 84.9—the best in the SEC last year. His final three games in 2024 were the best of his career, as he averaged 8.9 yards per attempt and threw seven touchdowns in just one stretch. His impressive form entering 2025 has led many to tip him as a potential top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

NFL Draft Analyst Calls Garrett Nussmeier ‘A Name at the Top’ of 2026 QB Rankings
LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier was widely expected to be one of the top picks for the 2025 NFL Draft. The 22-year-old was initially on this list last year but opted to bypass the 2025 NFL Draft to return to school for another season.
Already, he’s shown his ability and brilliance and demonstrated why he is being tipped as a top pick after waiting to become a starting quarterback at LSU.
“There is a familiar name that will be available at the top of the 2026 draft class for you guys, and that’s Garrett Nussmeier, who obviously has some connection to the state of Louisiana, and has some connections to the coaching staff with the New Orleans Saints,” an NFL draft analyst said.
“So I think that is the name that will be near the top of the list as we get ready for 2026. Nussmeier will be up there (in the 2026 quarterback rankings).”

The 22-year-old quarterback threw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns against 12 interceptions during the 2024 campaign and guided LSU to a 9–4 finish. Although Nussmeier is widely known for his arm talent, his overall accuracy on short, intermediate, and deep throws is equally impressive.
However, his accuracy remains room for improvement, as Nussmeier completed only 64.2% of his attempts last season. Analysts believe that improvements in his game could lead to him being viewed as the top contender to emerge as the top quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.
