Wake Forest Football Transfer Portal: Who Is in and Out for the Demon Deacons?

Wake Forest football is entering a new era under head coach Jake Dickert, following a transitional 2024 season that ended with a disappointing 4-8 record, including a 2-6 mark in ACC play. Following former coach Dave Clawson’s departure, the Demon Deacons are working hard to rebuild and strengthen their program in the competitive ACC.

The rebuilding process has already begun this offseason, with the transfer portal playing a key role in shaping the team’s future. Among the notable additions is Ja’Marion Kennedy, an interior offensive lineman who brings both talent and leadership to the team. Here’s a closer look at who’s in and out for the Demon Deacons this offseason.

    Who’s In for Wake Forest?

    Kamrean Johnson, TE

Johnson played two seasons at Vanderbilt, appearing in 25 games. In 2024, he recorded one reception for six yards and a touchdown while making a strong impact on special teams.

Standing at 6’5″ and 230 pounds, the Vanderbilt transfer brings both size and versatility to Wake Forest’s offense. His move to the ACC gives him a fresh opportunity to take on a bigger role and hopefully help the team move on from last season’s struggles.

    Karate Brenson, WR

Brenson had a fantastic season in 2024 while playing for Tennessee State, where he caught 79 passes for 1,088 yards and scored 6 touchdowns. Over his three years with the team, he made 130 catches for 1,669 yards and 9 touchdowns in total. The 6’2″, 215-pound receiver is expected to be a key contributor to Wake Forest’s offense under Jake Dickert’s guidance.

    Ja’Marion Kennedy, OL

Kennedy is a redshirt sophomore who spent two years at Louisiana Tech, but he didn’t see any game action. Despite that, he’s joining Wake Forest to help strengthen their offensive line. Head coach Jake Dickert added him to the roster because of his big size and weight (6’3″ and 323 pounds), which could help him stand out on the field.

    Harry Lodge, TE

Lodge played two seasons at Georgia Tech, where he appeared in 16 games. In 2024, he made 12 catches for 110 yards, showing his value in the passing game.

Now, the 6’6″, 240-pound tight end is joining Wake Forest, bringing both experience and size to strengthen their offense. His presence will add more options, especially when it comes to moving the ball through the air.

    Who’s Out for Wake Forest?

    Jeremy Hecklinski, QB

Hecklinski, a three-star recruit, redshirted his freshman season at Wake Forest in 2024. Known for his strong arm and quick decision-making, he threw for over 3,800 yards and 50 touchdowns during his senior year of high school. Now, his transfer to Iowa brings him back together with former Wake Forest offensive coordinator Warren Ruggiero.

    Chris Marable, DL

Marable spent two seasons at Wake Forest, where he played in six games. In 2024, he made 2 tackles while helping out as part of the defensive line rotation. Standing tall at 6’3″ and weighing 293 pounds, he brought strength and effort every time he stepped on the field.
