Travis Hunter’s NFL Draft Scouting Report
Travis Hunter enters the 2025 NFL Draft as one of the best prospects in the class, and he also profiles as one of most intriguing players in recent memory since he legitimately qualifies as a top-five pick at two positions.
He is truly a one-of-one type of NFL prospect. Hunter possesses below-average overall size and length, but offers a once-in-a-generation type of overall athleticism.
As a wide receiver, Hunter can use his elite burst, bend, and speed to carve up coverage defenders and offer RAC dynamism, and as a cornerback, he can match, transition, blanket WRs in trail, read routes, and hawk in front of passes.
His mobility profile is generational, as are his ball skills, and that combination is lethal on either side of the ball.
2025 NFL Draft Landing Spot for Travis Hunter
With the second pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Hunter. Though the Jaguars weren’t a commonly mocked team to select Hunter, the No. 2 overall spot was the most commonly found spot for Hunter’s name to appear.
The Jaguars traded up to receive Hunter’s services, sending a future first-round pick as well as a second-round pick in 2025 to secure Hunter.
Travis Hunter’s NFL Draft Projection
In CSN’s 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft from April 12, Hunter landed in Round 1 with the third overall pick to the New York Giants. James Fragoza has this to say:
The New York Giants face gaps at both the receiver and cornerback positions—and luckily, Travis Hunter can help address both from Day 1. While he won’t be able to start at both spots without sacrificing production, he can lock down as a CB1 and still see 15-20 snaps on offense, hauling in those deep passes from Russell Wilson.
In Max Dorsey’s 3-Round 2025 NFL Draft on CSN, Hunter went a pick above that to the Cleveland Browns. Dorsey had this to say:
I think Abdul Carter makes more sense for the Browns at two, but everything coming out of Cleveland suggests that Hunter will be the pick here at number two.
The Browns need cornerback and wide receiver help, both of which they’ll get from Travis Hunter, who is likely going to be the first NFL player ever to consistently play on both sides of the ball. Like I said earlier, pairing up Myles Garrett with Abdul Carter would be my selection here, but Hunter is still a great pick for the Browns.
