Utah Football Transfer Portal: Who Is in and Out for the Utes?

The Utah Utes are coming off a lackluster season, which saw them finish with a 5-7 overall record and an even worse 2-7 conference record. They finished 13th in the Big 12 with their poor play in 2024. Kyle Whittingham and Utah are looking to have a better season in 2025-26, and it could start in the transfer portal.

The team saw a bit of a shake-up with both players coming into join the program and leaving, looking for better opportunities elsewhere. Here’s everyone who’s in and who’s out for the Utes.

    Who’s In for Utah?

    JC Hart

The Auburn Tigers’ cornerback entered the transfer portal in hopes of finding a better opportunity with another team. The team that JC Hart is looking for a new opportunity and chance with is the Utes. Hart’s commitment to Utah can allow for Whittingham to check off a big need in the super athletic defensive back in Hart.

Hart will have three years of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-2, 199-pound cornerback is the first acquisition for Whittingham and company this spring. He became the 17th overall transfer commit to the Utes after spending his past two seasons with the Tigers. He appeared in three games and redshirted his freshman year, and once again received minimal playing time in 2024.

    Jaylen Moson

Not long after his visit to Salt Lake City, Furman transfer cornerback Jaylen Moson has committed to the Utah football program. Moson is Whittingham’s second acquisition of the spring transfer portal cycle. He joins JC Hart as the only other acquisition to the Utes in Utah’s new-look secondary.

After spending the past two seasons with the Paladins, Moson has three years of eligibility remaining thanks to the redshirt he received as a freshman in 2023. Last season, Moson picked up 21 total tackles and one pick in five games. Moson is a former three-star recruit in the class of 2023. He’s graded as a 2023 three-star transfer.

    Who’s Out for Utah?

    Wyatt Becker

The Utah quarterback, Wyatt Becker has decided to test the transfer portal waters after not seeing the field at all in his freshman season. With freshman Isaac Wilson leading the team at the quarterback spot, there’s not much room for Becker for any starting opportunities.

Wilson completed 127 passes on 225 attempts, throwing for 1,510 yards. He threw for 10 touchdowns but threw 11 interceptions which is a number that Wilson and the Utes hope to see fall. As for Becker, he’s looking to find his new home and a potential starting job sooner than later.

    Bear Tenney

Tenney is another player who didn’t see a lot of time on the field. With the tight end position largely dominated by Brant Kuithe who had a big season, catching 35 passes for 505 yards, there wasn’t much need for Tenney on the field in the tight end spot.

Tenney was a walk-on who enrolled for spring ball. He was rated an 87 coming out of high school and has yet to be rated as a portal player. He will have four years remaining and is looking for a bigger role with another team. Tenney found his new home with Sacramento State.

    Zacharyus Williams

Wide receiver was already a position Utah needed to tend to in the transfer portal. Unfortunately, with Zacharyus Williams entering the portal, the became much tougher for Utah. Williams emerged as the Utah WR1 in spring ball, two weeks prior to entering the portal.

Now, Utah is going to need to go back to the drawing board. As a freshman during the 2024 season, Williams caught 10 passes for 101 yards. He ended the season on a promising note, catching six passes for 72 yards in the Utes’ win over UCF. Now Utah will look to find another big receiver to fill in the void of Williams leaving.

    David Washington

Similarly with Williams, David Washington is another wide receiver who’s looking for a better opportunity with another team. Washington has entered the transfer portal in hopes of doing just that, making Utah that much more thin at the wide receiver position.

Washington appeared in four games in the 2024 campaign. However, he was held off the stat sheet with zero catches, no yards, and essentially no stats to go by. Washington looks to showcase his talents elsewhere.
