Alabama football lost more than 20 players to the transfer portal after going 9-3 during the 2024 season. However, the Crimson Tide added 10 transfers and more than 20 prospects to its 2025 recruiting class and now has depth at several positions, an issue that plagued them last season.
The three losses Alabama had last season came on the road, and head coach Kalen DeBoer rallied his players ahead of the season opener against Florida State.

DeBoer shared his thoughts about Florida State and their progress with reporters.
“I know that they got a lot of change — defense, offensive coordinators,” DeBoer said. “Guys who are veterans that understand the game on a high level. We’ll dive into that this summer and figure out exactly how we want to approach that going into Week One. That’s going to be a big one.
“We got to be on the road. We got to be better on the road than we were a year ago. So that’s another piece to it, and that’s getting focused on ourselves. But a lot of new players coming into their program, and we’ll have to weigh all that and kind of sort through that as a coaching staff and then pass that on to our guys when it’s the appropriate time.”
The good news for Crimson Tide fans: Alabama kept its roster intact despite the spring transfer portal.
In today’s era of college sports, keeping a player on your roster is easier said than done, but Alabama managed to retain its players this spring. Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack discussed how they made it happen.
“I think Kalen does a tremendous job,” Wommack said. “He’s very proactive, he’s very engaging, he’s very relational with people. Certainly, he understands the business side of this game, but he also keeps the main thing the main thing.”
“We are trying to bring out the best in these young men to maximize their opportunities as individuals and our opportunities as a team. Those things go hand in hand.”
