Transfer Portal Landing Spots for Tacario Davis Include Arizona State, Washington

Former Arizona Wildcats DB Tecario Davis has entered the transfer portal. Could these schools be potential landing spots for the tall corner?

Arizona Wildcats cornerback Tacario Davis entered the transfer portal after a strong redshirt-sophomore season. Davis had previously entered the transfer portal before the 2024 season, only to withdraw his name later. Now, he’s back in the portal, presumably to stay. With multiple years of remaining eligibility, he’s one of the top corners in the portal and should have high Power Four interest.

Which teams could be interested? Here are five potential transfer portal landing spots for Davis.

    Where Could Tacario Davis Transfer?

Davis is a unique corner. At 6’4″, 190, he’s long and lanky but a strong tackler. His ball production isn’t there, with just one career interception, but he’s been credited with 22 pass breakups in his career, and his combination of size, speed, and man-coverage ability make him one of the top corners in the portal.

Davis is originally from Long Beach, California, and he’s presumably looking for a place that can develop him into a high draft pick. I don’t think geography will be the primary factor in his recruitment, but I can’t rule out a return closer to home.

Here are a few potential landing spots for Davis.

    USC Trojans

Lincoln Riley still needs talented bodies on defense, especially in the defensive backfield, and Davis could return closer to home. The USC Trojans have had past success with bigger defensive backs, something not every team can say at the position.

Davis would have a chance to come in as the top corner on a rebuilding defense. The Trojans will be active in the transfer portal this season, especially defensively, so finding talented corners with ties to Southern California will be key.

    South Carolina Gamecocks

As someone fairly connected to the South Carolina Gamecocks program, I’ve yet to hear Davis’ name come up. However, the Gamecocks want a corner in the transfer portal, and Davis’ length screams South Carolina defensive backs coach Torrian Gray.

The Gamecocks are tied more closely to a couple of other transfer corners, but if those guys fall through, Davis makes the most sense, at least among the corners currently in the portal.

    Arizona State Sun Devils

Not only was Arizona State one of only a handful of schools to offer Davis a scholarship out of high school, but they now employ Davis’ primary recruiter at Arizona, DeWayne Walker, as a defensive analyst. If this move is all about relationships, Arizona State could be the pick.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the Sun Devils are also in the College Football Playoff or that Kenny Dillingham has that team playing extraordinarily well. Should Arizona State push, which I believe they will, this could be the pick.

    Washington Huskies

Jedd Fisch outperformed my expectations for him in his first year with the Washington Huskies, and in Year 2, he will leverage his connections to build a strong transfer class.

Fisch is a player’s coach, and it’s not lost on me that several of his former Arizona players immediately followed him to Washington last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few more joined him in this portal cycle. Davis feels like low-hanging fruit.

    Kansas Jayhawks

While most of the Kansas Jayhawks’ defensive staff that offered Davis a scholarship out of high school has retired or moved on from Lawrence, head coach Lance Leipold remains. Recently, Brian Borland retired — defensive backs coach D.K. McDonald was announced as the new defensive coordinator.

McDonald was an NFL defensive backs coach for a few seasons, and it’s rare to see a DBs coach as the defensive coordinator at the college game. Both of these are potential selling points for the Jayhawks with future NFL corners.
