Weber State was only 4-8 this season, but don’t blame QB Richie Munoz. The talented sophomore gave his all to the team … until now. Set to enter the transfer portal, which lucky program will Munoz call home next?
Where Will Richie Munoz Transfer?
Munoz burned his redshirt as a true freshman, playing five games to end the season. It paid off in 2024, with Munoz throwing for 2,568 yards and 24 touchdowns to just six interceptions.

The California native also put in work on the ground, generating 292 rushing yards and five scores. And for those concerned about the level of competition, his 364-yard, six-TD outing against FCS playoff member Montana should quell concerns. So, which teams make the most sense for Munoz?
Arizona Wildcats
Arizona Wildcats head coach Brent Brennan offered Munoz a scholarship while with the San Jose State Spartans in 2020.
Yes, Noah Fifita is still in tow, but as mentioned, Munoz still has a redshirt available, which he could use in 2024 to hone his craft and ease his transition to the FBS.
Colorado State Rams
Jay Norvell was yet another Mountain West coach who offered Munoz, this time with the Nevada Wolf Pack.
Norvell is now with the Colorado State Rams and actually has a very similar situation to Brennan at Arizona, with Brayden Nicolosi-Fowler entrenched as the starter under center.
Fresno State Bulldogs
With Mikey Keene also set to hit the portal, the Fresno State Bulldogs will likely be in the market for a new signal-caller.
Additionally, the Bulldogs give Munoz the opportunity to place closer to him, as he was raised in West Covina, California.
Sacramento State Hornets
Munoz may not make the leap to the FBS, although that’s certainly the goal. If he remains at the FCS level, the Sacramento State Hornets would be a strong fit.

QB Kaiden Bennett is in the portal, Sac State is in his home state, and the offense is as pass-happy as they come. The only downside is redshirt freshman Carson Conklin balled out in Bennett’s stead and is still on the roster.
Utah State Aggies
Speaking of pass-happy offenses, the Utah State Aggies let it rip last year and could do so once again in 2025. It appears New Mexico Lobos head coach Bronco Mendenhall is a name to watch to become the next full-time head coach at Utah State. If he doesn’t bring QB Devon Dampier with him, Munoz could be a low-risk, high-upside play.
