After just one season, Utah Utes CB Kenan Johnson has entered the transfer portal. Where will the once-heralded defensive back play next?
Where Will Kenan Johnson Transfer?
Kenan debuted with Utah last August, promptly hurting his knee in the first quarter against Southern Utah. He didn’t play another down for the program, leaving the medical tent with a brace and crutches to support him.
Before that season, he suited up for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Career highlights include 63 tackles and one interception in six seasons.
Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide
247Sports’ Brad Crawford outlined several teams with CB needs on Dec. 10. The Texas Longhorns have the resources and the need at cornerback, as do the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Michigan Wolverines
The Michigan Wolverines won a national title in 2023, but Jim Harbaugh left, as did a host of 2024 NFL Draft picks.
The secondary will be hit once again this offseason, with star CB Will Johnson being a first-round lock for an NFL team with CB needs. As a result, the Wolverines could be in the market for veteran CB support, and Kenan Johnson fits the bill.
Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes
The Oregon Ducks are another place that Johnson could go with Jabbar Muhammad set to enter the 2025 NFL draft.
Ohio State is fresh off its national championship victory and may have some CB needs, too, with Denzel Burke entering the draft and Davison Igbinosun needing a new running mate.

Burke faced criticism after his play this past season, as he was schooled during Ohio State’s regular-season game against the Ducks, allowing eight catches for 179 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He also struggled with holding and pass interference calls in other regular-season games.
