Though the transfer portal window closes soon, there are still plenty of high-profile players entering. Among a flurry of entrants on Friday morning was Wake Forest Demon Deacons wide receiver Donavon Greene. A fifth-year senior with one year of eligibility remaining, Greene is likely to command a large market.
Which teams could be in the running for the 6’2″, 210-pound wideout. Here are five potential landing spots for Greene.
Where Could Donavon Greene Transfer?
Greene was highly-coveted out of Mount Airy High School in North Carolina, even though he came from a run-heavy offensive system. He chose the Demon Deacons as one of their most highly-ranked transfers in school history.
He dealt with both injuries and inconsistency at the quarterback position, but he’s still put up 1,853 yards and 13 touchdowns in four seasons. His best year was in 2022 when he had 642 yards and six touchdowns on 37 catches.
He’s a true deep threat with size and speed. Accordingly, he’s one of the top receivers in the transfer portal. Assuming he can stay healthy, (he missed all of the 2021 and 2023 seasons with injuries) he could have a huge year for a team with an established quarterback.
Plenty of high-profile teams will be interested, but I get the sense Greene would like to go to a contender with a proven quarterback. That would help him put up career numbers.
South Carolina Gamecocks
The South Carolina Gamecocks have one of the top returning quarterbacks in the country and a solid wide receiver room but lack a true No. 1 option. They don’t have to take a receiver in the portal and haven’t been involved with role players at the position.
That being said, they’ve kicked the tires on a few higher-profile receivers, including Dane Key and Kevin Concepcion. Out of those three, Greene would make the most sense, and I’ve confirmed that there’s considerable interest on South Carolina’s end. For Greene, the chance to play with LaNorris Sellers could be enticing.
Miami Hurricanes
Whenever a successful wide receiver goes in the portal, you can bet that the Miami Hurricanes will be involved. They’ve lost a few receivers to the portal and the 2025 NFL Draft, and while they don’t currently have a high-profile quarterback, it’s an intriguing landing spot for offensive skill players.
They’ll likely need to land their starting quarterback for next season, they’ve landed receiver CJ Daniels from the LSU Tigers and likely want one more receiver. Greene fits that explosive offense like a glove.
Florida State Seminoles
The Florida State Seminoles lived by the portal and last year they died by the portal. Now, they’ll try to dig themselves out via the portal. There are plenty of holes on that offense, with the receiver room being one of the most glaring.
Mike Norvell hasn’t forgotten how to coach, and the addition of Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator makes Florida State an intriguing landing spot for top receivers.
North Carolina Tar Heels
The North Carolina Tar Heels, under the new leadership of head coach Bill Belichick, are going to be active in the transfer portal. They were involved with Greene out of high school five years ago, and that could be a factor in his next recruitment.

While the Tar Heels have several promising young receivers, there’s no true star, and Greene could take over that role for a season in Chapel Hill, N.C., should they push.
Duke Blue Devils
Manny Diaz has quietly established the Duke Blue Devils as an attractive school for transfers, even though he can often run into snags in the academic transfer process. Greene, as a graduate transfer from Wake Forest, is low-hanging fruit for a team that needs playmakers to pair with quarterback Darian Mensah.
The Blue Devils have done a tremendous job of building through the portal, and Greene would be another significant win for a team looking to establish itself as a true ACC contender.
