Transfer Portal Landing Spots for Conner Weigman Include Iowa Hawkeyes, USC Trojans

Former five-star QB Conner Weigman plans to enter the transfer portal. Which top teams could be among his potential landing spots?

Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Conner Weigman has announced his intention to enter the transfer portal after an up-and-down career. The talent is there, but he struggled with injuries and struggled to find a rhythm under multiple coaches.

He’s expected to be one of the top quarterbacks in the portal, so there should be plenty of suitors. Here are five potential landing spots for Weigman.

    Where Could Conner Weigman Transfer?

Weigman was a highly-touted recruit out of Cypress, Texas, in the 2022 recruiting class. He played early under Jimbo Fisher but never reached 1,000 passing yards in a season or more than five games played. When he played, though, he was excellent, with a 19-to-7 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Weigman has struggled to stay healthy, but when he has been on the field, he’s flashed his five-star potential. He’s expected to receive significant interest in the portal and has stated he’d like to play for a College Football Playoff contender.

Weigman is a redshirt sophomore with two years of eligibility remaining, which could excite prospective teams. Here are five potential landing spots.

    Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have gotten into a rhythm of taking experienced transfers from Power Four schools, and it’s looking like that’s the route they could go next year as well. Weigman would fit the mold of a strong-armed field general with some mobility.

Weigman wants to go to a competitive team, and the Irish look like a perennial contender. The fit here could be perfect.

    Miami Hurricanes

Weigman says he doesn’t have any specific preferences for scheme, geography, or conference, so he could look at teams all over the country. The Miami Hurricanes are likely in the market for another quarterback next year as they’ve had success with Cam Ward this season.

The Hurricanes have the established team to contend, but the defense has plenty of holes, something Weigman will certainly notice. I’m not sure this is the best fit, given Weigman’s criteria.

    Michigan Wolverines

I’m intrigued by the idea of Weigman to the Michigan Wolverines. Weigman is not only a smart player but also an intelligent thinker off the field. He’s likely looking for teams that are “a quarterback away,” as the saying goes.

Michigan won seven games this season while throwing for fewer yards per game than all but five FBS programs. Bryce Underwood is the quarterback of the future, but the Wolverines likely want a veteran for next season. Weigman makes sense.

    Iowa Hawkeyes

Like the Wolverines, the Iowa Hawkeyes were (once again) a solid football team with major quarterback issues. The rest of the offense seemed to take a step forward this season, but the signal-callers struggled mightily.

The Hawkeyes finished behind the Navy Midshipmen in passing yardage and are reportedly preparing to offer a competitive Name, Image, and Likeness package for a top quarterback. Weigman fits the description, and he could choose to go to a team that is lacking a player like him as the missing piece.

    USC Trojans

Ironically, after benching Miller Moss, who plans to transfer elsewhere, the USC Trojans are now in the market for a top transfer. Lincoln Riley offered Weigman out of high school, and the Trojans and Aggies have been trading blows on the recruiting trail.

Riley is known for getting the most out of his quarterbacks, but Weigman would be one of the best decision-makers Riley has worked with in several years. After the Trojans’ quarterbacks struggled with interceptions this season, that might be something that tips the scales for USC.
