On Dec. 28, Georgia Bulldogs QB Carson Beck declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. Just under two weeks later, news broke that he plans on entering the transfer portal. What happened, and where could the once-touted QB1 end up?
Where Will Carson Beck Transfer?
Across five years, four seasons of playing time, and two campaigns as the starter, Beck’s Georgia tenure appears to be over — one way or another. He generated 7,913 passing yards, 58 passing touchdowns, and 20 interceptions over his career but suffered a UCL injury in his elbow during the SEC Championship Game.

The injury required surgery, held him out of the College Football Playoff, and won’t allow him to throw until the spring. Beck initially planned on forgoing his final year of collegiate eligibility from the COVID year and declare for the NFL Draft but has since changed his mind and could land elsewhere in 2025. Which programs make the most sense?
Miami Hurricanes
Beck is from Jacksonville, Fla. His girlfriend, Hanna Cavinder, is in their final season on the Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball team. The ‘Canes need a new signal-caller with Cam Ward off to the NFL. What’s not to like?
Beck would follow Ward’s exact path, as the QB initially declared for the draft following two years at Washington State before transferring to Miami. A year in Shannon Dawson’s offense could be what the doctor ordered for Beck’s NFL projection.
UCLA Bruins
Tino Sunsuri left Indiana for UCLA’s offensive coordinator position and seemingly pegged longtime Appalachian State starter Joey Aguiler as his QB. However, perhaps Beck’s entrance prompts him to switch paths. The Sunsuri family is familiar with Beck, as Tino’s father, Sal, recruited him while at Alabama.
Georgia Bulldogs
A return to Georgia isn’t completely out of the question, especially with the program’s current projected depth chart. We saw some of Gunner Stockton against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and his lack of pocket awareness likely stunted the coaching staff’s belief in his ability to start next year.
Nevertheless, the Bulldogs planned on handing the keys to a new signal-caller for the first time in two years, so they may not be all that keen on stopping that process.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Jalen Milroe declared for the NFL Draft, even if many analysts and evaluators believe he could use another year of collegiate experience to refine his game. Assuming he doesn’t pull a Beck and return to the college gridiron, the Alabama Crimson Tide will need a new QB.

Now, Tide fans may not be all that impressed by Beck, considering they beat him both times they faced him. But the program may not be all that confident in rolling out Ty Simpson next year. It would also be a win for Beck, who be able to work with QB guru Kalen DeBoer for a year before entering the next draft cycle.
The NFL
Beck could’ve received a lower draft stock than he expected, promoting his decision to test the transfer portal waters. However, that doesn’t mean he won’t ultimately enter the 2025 NFL Draft, especially if the NIL offers he receives are lower than what he could make during his first professional contract.
