There are many reasons why a team like the Texas Longhorns was able to make it to within a game of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. One of those reasons is money.

False Texas Spending Rumor Falsely Linked to Curt Cignetti
To build a great team in college football, you need to have a lot of money. Tens of millions of dollars, specifically. However, the money each of these teams, such as Texas, can be misrepresented due to false reports.

Speaking of misrepresented, it was originally believed that the Longhorns had $40 million in NIL money.
Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti speculated in an article that Texas could have that much money, but that has recently been debunked, as it is now estimated that they have between $28.5 and $30.5 million in NIL money.
If the major teams, like the one in Austin, had over $40 million in NIL money, it simply would not be fair to the rest of the country.
Texas Looking to Bounce Back in 2025
NIL money aside, the Longhorns have made strides in previous years to become true national title contenders. They have recruited well, coached at an elite level, and produced NFL stars.
Heading into this season, young quarterback Arch Manning will be taking over as the starter with Quinn Ewers heading to the NFL. Running backs Quintrevion Webster and C.J. Baxter will be back for another year, but the team did lose key players at the wide receiver position and along the trenches.

Between now and the back half of the 2025 season, head coach Steve Sarkisian is going to have to find a way to find production there.
The losses of Matthew Golden, Isaiah Bond, Barryn Sorrell, and Kelvin Banks Jr., among others, will be tough to overcome. However, in what appears to be a weaker SEC than in years past, with the leadership of a player such as Manning, this team can get back to the College Football Playoff.
The only question will be if they can outlast an elite team like Ohio State when they are on the doorstep of the end zone in the biggest moment.
