As the nation’s 30th-ranked overall Edge Rush prospect in 2026, Griffin-Haynes recently narrowed his choice of schools to four after decommitting from North Carolina.

The Cornhuskers also have a visit scheduled with another 4-star prospect in Cornerback Camren Hamriel, scheduled to visit the school on June 6.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Hamiel is the No. 263 overall prospect and No. 24 corner in the 2026 cycle. The prospect plans to make a decision once he’s completed all of his visits.
“I plan to commit around the middle of summer after my official visits. “When I finish the visits, I will sit down with my family, coach, and agent, then talk it over, and that will lead to my commitment.”
In a recent interview, Nebraska Head Coach Matt Rhule offered his take on the current state of recruitment, explaining that desperate teams set the market.
“The whole thing like, hey, you should be the first offer at Nebraska? You know, desperate teams always set the market. Let me say that one more time. In rev share and all this, desperate teams set the market,” Rhule explained.
“If they know that, hey, straight up, we can’t beat a Big Ten team or we can’t beat Nebraska, then we better offer them a year earlier and say Nebraska doesn’t care about you. We care about you.”
Rhule also explained that while he’s looking to recruit players from the state of Nebraska, he first needs to make sure that they are ‘good enough,’ as the Cornhuskers look to contend with the best teams in the Big Ten.
“I love the state, I love the players, and we’re going, we’re going to take a bunch. Should be taking some as walk-ons, we’ve taken some as scholarship players. I just have to be sure that they’re good enough.”
Zavion Griffin-Haynes Explains North Carolina Tar Heels Decommitment.
In an interview back in November with 247 Sports, the North Carolina native explained why he ultimately decided to decommit from the College despite being from the state, claiming that the firing of Head Coach Mack Brown was the main reason.
“Mack Brown and I had a great relationship, and that pretty much sums up my recruitment,” said Griffin-Haynes, explaining that he and Brown shared a special bond.
“Now that he’s gone, he was a person I could trust without my mom being there. He has great experience in college football.”
Despite decommitting from the program, Griffin-Haynes visited the school when making the rounds back in January, sharing a moment with NFL Legend Bill Belichick.

“He told me I’m an NFL player, I gotta do what it takes to get there, and coming to UNC, he will make sure I’m in the right position too,” Griffin-Haynes shared.
Ultimately, despite sharing this special moment with the NFL Legend, the prospect ultimately decided that it wasn’t the right destination for him, with the school not making the cut past his final eleven.
The Four-Star Prospect will make his decision between Nebraska, Michigan, Clemson, and Florida State on July 1 after all of his official visits are concluded.
