The USC Trojans have the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in 2026 right now. They were able to land two players recently in the squad to make it 27 commits. Half of those play their high school football in California.
Now, the Trojans have added four-star Santa Ana and Mater Dei’s Shaun Scott. The program has now added one of the best pure pass rushers in the region, who can also specialise in space, drop, and is strong in the run game.

Why Shaun Scott Could Be a Turning Point for USC’s Defense?
Scott, a four-star edge, has officially provided his commitment to play for the USC Trojans as per a report by On3’s Hayes Fawcett. The youngster had offers from programs like Michigan, Texas, Washington, and Penn State, among others, according to 247 Sports.

Scott is just the second commit from Mater Dei, while the other one is four-star defensive lineman Tomuhini Topui.
Speaking to On3, Scott said, “USC has been on top for a couple of months now.” He continued, “I took some visits and I wanted to make sure before I committed.”
Scott revealed to the aforementioned source that the defensive staff made him “feel like a priority”, and they made the player feel “special” as he was kept “high on their board.” After feeling like a “top guy”, the college football player decided that this was the program where he wanted to play.
Scott went on to talk about his new head coach, Lincoln Riley, and stated that “he would have won the national championship,” if he were the coach of Ohio State in the previous season. He called Riley a “great coach” and believes he just “needs the players.”

Scott, a product of Mater Dei High School in Southern California, believes that with coach Riley, good things are on their way for the program. On3 reports that he is all set to visit Los Angeles officially on May 30. The player is ranked as a No. 29 EDGE. However, he will be playing as a linebacker for his new team.
