Now former Maryland Terrapins QB Billy Edwards Jr. put a jolt to the college football transfer portal when he announced his intent to transfer from College Park. After a bit of a breakthrough campaign in 2024, where could Edwards wind up?
Where Could Billy Edwards Jr. Transfer?
After transferring in 2022 from Wake Forest, Edwards entered the transfer portal following an up-and-down redshirt junior season. After previously waiting two seasons before becoming the starter for the 2024, Edwards came out swinging this season.
Edwards threw 11 touchdowns against only two interceptions in the first five games.

However, his production tailed off in the back half of the season, mustering only two touchdowns compared to five interceptions in his final four outings.
With one year of eligibility left, the 6’4″, 219-pound quarterback showed the potential to lead an offense. Which teams could be interested? Here are three potential transfer portal landing spots for Edwards.
Wisconsin Badgers
Edwards’ top landing spot is seen as the Wisconsin Badgers, allowing him to stay in the Big 10 and become the favorite to start right away, as three quarterbacks (including starter Tyler Van Dyke and backup Braedyn Locke) have already entered the portal.
After finishing 5-7 and 15th in the Big 10, head coach Luke Fickell will be looking to add to the position in the portal.
With Alabama, Ohio State, and Penn State all on the schedule in 2025, an experienced passer like Edwards — with rushing capabilities, running for 13 touchdowns in his career — would be a perfect fit to execute Fickell’s power-spread system.
Michigan Wolverines
The Michigan Wolverines could be a player in the Edwards sweepstakes as an obvious quarterback-needy program.
Michigan started three different quarterbacks in 2024 with none having much success. Only Davis Warren could potentially be back in 2025, as Jack Tuttle retired midseason due to concussions and Alex Orji entered the transfer portal. Edwards would be an instant upgrade over the former walk-on Warren.
While the 2025 No. 1 overall player in the nation, quarterback Bryce Underwood, recently flipped his commitment to the Wolverines, head coach Sherrone Moore may be looking to add an upperclassman through the portal after enduring a disappointing 7-5 season. Edwards would fit that mold, bringing a veteran presence to the program.
Syracuse Orange
Another team that should be in the hunt for a veteran quarterback is the Syracuse Orange, who finished the regular season 9-3 in 2024 behind senior Kyle McCord.

The offense is filled with returning playmakers, namely pass catchers Trebor Pena and Darrell Gill Jr.; first-team All-ACC redshirt junior tight end Oronde Gadsden II may decide to come back for his senior season as well. The cupboard is far from empty, perfect for Edwards, who showed his ability to spread the ball around with the Terrapins.
McCord transferred to Syracuse for his senior season and had a tremendous year — Edwards could follow the same path in his final year of eligibility.
