2x SB Champ Spells Doom For Mario Cristobal’s Miami As Carson Beck Falls Flat in Louisville Loss

Two-time Super Bowl champion Bryant McFadden had a prediction for head coach Mario Cristobal after the Miami Hurricanes were defeated by Louisville on Friday. The 24-21 loss could spell trouble for Cristobal if he doesn’t make it to the ACC Championship game this season.

Miami were 5-0 entering Friday’s Week 8 game. They were ranked No. 2 while the Cardinals were an unranked program. Despite that, they stunned Carson Beck & Co.

Appearing on CBS Sports College Football, McFadden spoke about how when it matters most, Cristobal has failed as head coach.

“In the months of August and September, in his career as the head coach of Miami, he’s 15‑2,” McFadden said. “In the months of October and November, he’s 12‑14. When it matters most, in August and September, they’re playing against lesser-talented teams, non-conference, always at home. But when you get into October and November, where the great teams separate themselves from the rest of the pack, he struggles.”

McFadden pointed out last season’s losses to make his point. He added:

“When you talk about issues a year ago — Georgia Tech in October, Syracuse in November — guess what happened last night? October, Louisville comes to town. This has been the calling card for Mario Cristobal in an era where he has so much talent.”

McFadden added that after Miami couldn’t make it to the ACC Championship last year despite having the No. 1 quarterback in Cam Ward, another such year with all that talent, Cristobal could be fired if he doesn’t play the conference championship game this fall.

“Last year, you had the top quarterback in the country, the best player in the draft in Cam Ward, and you have nothing to show for it because you didn’t even compete for an ACC championship,” McFadden added.

“And if it happens again, if it happens again, we will have to do a case study on what is going on, because when you look at the talent that you all referenced, they have it. Offensive line, quarterback — even though Carson Beck didn’t have his best day, they struggled. You cannot have another year with all that talent and not at least compete for an ACC championship.”

What Miami HC Mario Cristobal Said After Louisville Loss?

Mario Cristobal shared his disappointment with his team. He cited that the players fell short in execution and discipline. He said:

“That’s a really poor job of execution and discipline. That’s all of us — every player and every coach. After having some really good performances and working really hard in practice, that’s really disappointing. We’re all disappointed. We’re all pissed.”

Quarterback Carson Beck had a really bad game. He threw for four interceptions and his last interception came from game-tying field goal range. The loss would definitely affect their AP Poll rankings but the program will need to make sure that this was a one-off.
