Rich Eisen’s interview today on First Take suggested that Tyler Shough’s path through college football to the NFL, similar to Cam Ward’s, puts an interesting spin on quarterbacks and their development, and what that could mean when drafted, especially in the first round.

Tyler Shough’s Journey Boosting His Draft Stock
Eisen talked about Ward’s career in college, moving from school to school, and that Shough is another one “Going from program to program to and back in the day that was a red flag now there’s portals there’s also as we all know the covid year where there’s a a sixth year so a lot of kids are coming in more polished.”
Shough was a four-star college recruit who received offers from Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
His first few years had seen him redshirt, giving him seven years of playing time. He spent 2018-2020 in Oregon, serving as a backup to Justin Herbert.
Despite a Texas Tech transfer where he was from 2021-2024, Shough never played a full year.
It wasn’t until 2024, following his transfer to Louisville, that he played 12 games, led the Cardinals to an 8-4 record, and had 3,195 passing yards and 23 touchdowns against six interceptions.
While draft projections have him in the second or third round, The Playoffs NFL Devavrat Kulkarni’s article said that if “the latest reports are to be believed, one head coach has him rated higher than Ward and sees him as a first-round draft pick.”
The article doesn’t specify who the coach is, but it does note that the Shough has gained attention as teams delve deeper into their evaluations.
Eisen does not suggest another pick for the Titans at No. 1 despite Ward’s and Shough’s similarities.
