The UConn Huskies, coached by Geno Auriemma, are considered by many to be the most storied program in all of women’s college basketball. This is because the team has amassed the most national championships in the sport with 12, along with several other accolades such as 24 NCAA Final Four appearances, 30 Big East conference tournament titles and 31 conference regular season championships.
With this, the team has produced some of the best players in women’s basketball history. This includes the likes of Sue Bird, who won two championships with the team and went on to become a four-time WNBA champion, and Diana Taurasi, who many consider one of the greatest women’s basketball players of all time. In recent times, there are now joined by Paige Bueckers, who is now in the running to be the 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year.
As UConn enters the 2025-26 season fresh off of its 2025 national championship berth, the loss of Bueckers has left a hefty void for the team to fill in the hopes of a national title repeat. With a slew of high-level high school recruits and transferees coming into their already talented roster, let’s take a look at five recruits that could potentially be the Huskies’ next great star.

She has tallied 16.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.3 blocks per contest in her three-year tenure.

In her first year, Heckel averaged 6.1 points, 1.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.3 steals a game.
