Haley Cavinder’s Twin Hanna Reveals How NIL Opened Up Women’s Basketball

Haley and Hanna are almost done with their college basketball careers. The twins will wrap up the season on Sunday’s game against California.

However, the twins still have a lot going for them, thanks to their popularity on TikTok and Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals with popular brands. Haley and Hanna were among the first student-athletes to sign NIL deals following its introduction in 2021 when they signed their first deals with Boost Mobile.

They soon added their partnership deals with Dick’s Sporting Goods, Under Armour, Champs Sports, Ghost Nutrition and the WWE, experiencing their breakthrough after transferring to Miami from Fresno State ahead of the 2022-23 season.

When the twins began college basketball, athletes were seen as amateurs. Times have certainly changed now as the league has produced superstars like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Aliyah Boston, Paige Bueckers and JuJu Watkins. Hanna credited NIL for opening up women’s basketball and women’s sports in general.

“In the beginning, obviously, there weren’t as many eyes on women’s basketball, but NIL kind of opened that up a little bit for women in sports in general,” Hanna said per ESPN. “It kind of blew up during Angel Reese’s year and Caitlin Clark’s year. It’s completely changed, and it’s going to continue to change and grow.”

Agreeing with her twin, Haley said they were ready to keep growing their brand and partnerships.

“I feel like I’m getting old now,” Haley said. “Times have changed. I’ve seen women’s basketball evolve over the years, and being a part of that, and kind of leading somewhat of the way in certain areas with Hanna is something that is extremely important.”

As the twins wrap up their collegiate basketball careers, they are expected to follow in their parents’ footsteps as entrepreneurs.
