Matt McGloin accepted Bill O’Brien’s offer to become an offensive analyst at Boston College, and everything seemed fine with the transition. Two days later, McGloin resigned and headed back to Scranton. Whether he was a superstitious or even a little “stitious,” McGloin felt the pull of Pennsylvania.
Whether it was the local bears, beets, or even Battlestar Galactica, the former Nittany Lion dipped on his former coach.

So, what prompted McGloin to reverse course? Some speculated that family concerns kept him at home instead of pursuing his dream job. Things feel rather unspoken and unknown, but O’Brien has earned a reputation for being tight-lipped.
“This week, I made a difficult and life-changing decision without full awareness of the consequence it would have on my wife and young children,” he said after resigning.
Before McGloin resigned, the BC analyst job felt like a perfect fit. Whether he will end up back at Penn State like fellow Nittany Lion quarterback Trace McSorley remains to be seen.

Who is Matt McGloin?
McGloin arrived as a walk-on QB in Happy Valley in 2009 when O’Brien was brought in as the steward to clean up after the Paterno/Sandusky tragedy. Many shied away from the school, but playing football drew him to Penn State when there were a million reasons not to go.
On the field, McGloin’s calm resonated. He threw for 6,390 yards and 46 touchdowns, which helped him find his way to the NFL. As an undrafted free agent, he made the Oakland Raiders out of camp.
