Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will be one of the driving forces in the College Football Playoff picture in 2024.
Where did Beck play high school football, and where did his journey to CFB stardom and 2025 NFL Draft prominence begin?
Where Did Carson Beck Play in High School?
Beck played high school football at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Fla.
There, Beck rose to prominence as a junior, winning the 2018 Mr. Football Award in the state of Florida after amassing 3,546 yards and 30 touchdowns en route to a state championship.
Beck’s senior season at Mandarin was a bit less productive, but he nevertheless managed to accrue high standing in the 2020 recruiting class. He was a four-star recruit and a top-250 national talent.
Interestingly, Beck also showed visible talent in baseball. He committed to the Florida Gators to pursue a career in baseball as early as his sophomore year in high school. But later, Beck decided to transition to football full-time.
That ended up being a very fruitful decision for a signal-caller who’s now in the driver’s seat to be the QB1 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
How Did Beck End Up at Georgia?
As mentioned above, Beck was a highly-regarded four-star recruit who generated interest across the board as a polished pro-style passer.
Much of the SEC was transfixed by the local prospect, and Beck originally committed to Alabama in the 2020 cycle. Later, however, he chose to de-commit from the Crimson Tide and shifted his allegiance to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.
Beck had, in fact, had his eyes on Georgia for a long time. And when the offensive coaching staff at Alabama began experiencing turmoil, that opened the door for Beck to explore his options again. In his second and much more truncated recruiting window, Georgia won him over.

Beck sat on the bench for several years. He witnessed the oft-tumultuous battle between JT Daniels and Stetson Bennett, and then Bennett’s subsequent seizing of the long-term starting role. And through 2022, Beck served as Bennett’s backup, playing sparingly.
But when Bennett moved on to the NFL, Beck took his place as the Bulldogs’ full-time starter, and he flourished in 2023. Achieving a record of 13-1, Beck completed 302 of 417 attempts (72.4%) for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions.
Now, heading into the 2024 college football season, Beck is not only a known quantity on the CFB stage, but he’s also one of the top-rated 2025 NFL Draft prospects at the quarterback position.
Beck is currently Pro Football Network’s QB1, and his scouting report has this to say about his talent:
“Overall, with his accuracy, pre-snap and post-snap processing, arm talent, competitive toughness, versatility from shotgun and under center, and his ability to conduct the offense and keep plays on schedule, Beck has the potential to be a franchise QB who can elevate an NFL team from within the system.”
